sweet~ there's no age limit to how crazy people are. lol If you're crazy, you're crazy.
But that's cool Al. I understand that this whole shop thing is your way of beating mid life crisis.
lol
"I don't care who you are, that's funny." "get er' done~" lol
I went 160mph with a passenger once. Hit fuel cut or something, it was misfiring like crazy.
Hey Al, I have got the dealer flash to get rid of my p0300 code and it actually took care of my lack of cat cel light as well.
But I'm looking to get flashed. Is the dealer flash's gonna be a problem or what?

After you get upgraded valve springs, retainers and other internals, you can extend your redline to near 8500rpm's.

1.031:1 = drive ratio of 4th on Evo8 5-speed (henceforth referred to as 4th/5)
1.100:1 = drive ratio of 4th on MR 6-speed (henceforth referred to as 4th/6)
RPM = rpm of 4th/5 at trap speed (Al's trap if we can get it...137mph)
Dynoflash: 140 mph in my evo = 8650 rpms in 4th - but with 255 40 17 tires
thus (1.100/1.031) X 8650 = 9229 rpm
So, I'm figuring about 9250 rpm
to trap a six speed at 140, give or take.
Hmmmm. Stuff's going to be flying apart

I disagree with Al about the gearing. For most of us, that shorter 4th gear, along with a higher rev limit from a reflash, means we can easily trap around 116 to 118 before getting cut off. This means that 4th gear is in the 6sp is superior to that of the 5speed for those of us who enjoy drag racing without massive mods like turbo upgrades because it is geared a tinee bit lower. That slightly shorter gear would have meant at least 1 more mph and a few tenths quicker on my 11.9 at 115 run.
However, for the big turbo guys, Al's point is well taken. But would that shorter 5th gear in the 6speed be handy for Evo's like turbo trix's who have to shift into 5th because they are trapping almost 150mph? Or do they hold 4th well into the 9000's?

0300 code reflash so I can flash over that. It works lik eany other reflash only you keep the benefits of the 0300 code flash which help some people and have not helped others with the 0300 code problem If you have a 2004 with the new 2004 0300 code then i can't help you out for a couple pf more weeks

You guys are comparing apples to oranges ......
Yeah, um lets see, a high HP and rev limiter removed GSR EVO to an MR with the stock rev limiter still in place.
Until I see equal HP and equal rev limited EVOs go at it, its hard to draw any conclusion ....

I forgot to factor in the final drive ratio of the two transmissions:
final drive ratio of 5-speed is 4.529:1
final drive ratio of 6-speed is 4.583:1
Now someone's got to help me with this. I don't know if the higher number final drive ratio is a taller gear (lower rpms) or smaller gear (higher rpms). I'm lost on that.

Either they are shifting into 5th gear, which with the torque curves dropping after 6000 rpm, might be beneficial anyway...or they are running into the 9000's at trap. That or tranny mods. Now the transmission mod details I could understand being proprietary if they're really into staying the fasted 1/4 mile evo (but anyone with 1/4 times as their primary objective can easily figure out exactly how to gear the tranny) but the shift can be well appreciated by any bystander. So which is it? TURBOTRIX! Are you shifting or running the rpms into the 9000-plus area ?

Taller tire makes what ?????Mark
Turbotrix
Ok
Due to an evil mitsu tec messing up an install on my excedy I am replacing my transfer case and tranny. I have a MR 6 speed waiting to go in. This is the clincher. What would happen if I swapped 4th gear out of my old tranny and into the new MR?
Is it even posible?
