Harness question

I plan on installing some harness's for track use, my question is this: Are these dangerous for daily driving? I remember somewhere reading this?

make sure they are properly installed. that is the biggest reason why they would be dangerous. additionally, when using harnesses you need to have the straps TIGHT, or else it will be like not having any harnesses at all. if your willing to adjust the straps every time you get in to make sure they are snug, then you will be ok.

i have seen many people saying harnesses shouldn't be used without a helmet. i feel like that is a bunch of bs because your head is more likely to hit the b pillar or roof or any other objectswith the regular seat belt then with harnesses.

Just make sure the harnesses aren't secured to the floor (up/down) and farther back (more level with the ground). I read it can compress your spine in a rollover if you secure it wrong. You might want to do more research, specifically from the harness manufacturers.

I'd be concerned with how they're mounted as well. I don't think there's a problem specifically for street use if you properly tighten them when you get in, I do think there are issues if they are not mounted in the car properly...but I'm not sure what all (or any) of these are.

Search for this one. I believe the general consensus is that you should absolutely not use a 4-point harness on the street without a roll cage. A 3-point belt will allow your body to move inward in the event of a rollover/roof collapse. The harness will hold you upright and greatly increase your chance of serious injury.

There was a doctor on here a while ago who was strongly discouraging anybody from a using a 4-point harness without cage, (and of course cage without helmet).

I have the sparco harness bar in my evo... i just put it in 2 weeks ago. I really like it how the harnesses feel while driving hard. When i go back to driving a car without the harnesses I dont feel as safe. I recomend the sparco harness bar system with the 4 point harnesses.

Where do you mount the two harness points for the waist? I've seen installs saying put both ends where the seat belts mount, but it seems like these points aren't right because there's too much slack in the harnesses; even when fully tightened.

Another harness ?: how can you get the chime telling you to put your seatbelt on to NOT chime all the freaking time when you have your harnesses on and not your stock seatbelt?

I'm using the sparco 4 point clubman harnesses. The are the "bolt in" type. I bolted the two lap-belt straps to the factory belt locations, but your correct that there was too much slack. I just cut the nylon to free up the loop and re-routed the nylon through the clip and now i have all the adjustablility i need. I would post pics but im not sure how to do it....... anyway the sparco system is great !
