Does your Fan turn off with the car?

Does your fan turn off with the car?

I've noticed that after my fan wire harness replaced from the dealer as Recall, my fan turns on when the car is just about to turn off then turn off with the car.

Is this normal or am I going be pissed at the dealership again?

Thanks.

I like to let my car run for a good 3-4 minutes before it turn it off to cool down the turbo. What i noticed is that for the first minute of 2 the car just runs, but after that the fan kicks on for about 30 seconds then shuts off, then kicks on again, then shuts off, yaddda yaddda yaddda. Is that what your talking about?

The fan runs based on temperature, not just if the engine is running. Many times the fan will kick on when the car is off or run after you turn the motor off.

ok, my fan doesn't do that. It kicks in few times whilee the Turbo Timer is running then last time when it turns on the car turns off and the fan turns off as well.

I'm thinking your fan is suppose to run after the engine is turned off, but it's not. IT's been happening since I got my fan wire harness replaced.

any thought on that?

I haven't heard my fan run after the engine turned off ever since.

I noticed my car started doing the exact same thing after the fan harness recall. It's probably normal, though it is kind of annoying that the fan kicks on 2 seconds before I turn off the car.

yeh, that's how it's suppose to be. Stupid recall, mitsubishi dealerships just don't want us to have this car.

THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE FAN HARNESS INSTALL FROM A RECALL!

It'll turn on for 2 seconds just like naucrx said then turn off with the car.

I have no idea if this is normal, but I don't think it is.

evolved04,

I drove my EVO from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta, about an 11 hour drive. Everytime i'd pull in to gas up, i'd let it run at idle for 3 minutes before shutting it down and then I'd fill it up. The fan would never come on in that time period and i was standing right next to the car the entire time.

Now i'm starting to wonder if my car is OK. I am driving an MR, do you think that may have something to do with it?

All of your cars are ok. Like I said, it is based on temperature. Not whether or not your car is off or on or recently turned off or on. Relax.

yeh, of course the fan's based on temperature. Was it based on anything else before? sigh...

But you don't understand my concern here. If the fan turns on it should stay turning even the car turns off. The only reason the fan turned on in the first place is because of the temp being higher than set base temp.

So why doesn't it keep turning to cool the car? Why does it just turn off with the car?

I've had my car turned off and fan ran before, now it's not doing it anymore.

got me?

Just for the record, the recall was for the fan controller, not the harness. They issued the recall to replace fan controllers that WOULD NOT work properly to cool the engine resulting in OVERHEATING at idle.

As for the minor annoyance of your fan coming on as you turn the key off, well it's all about temperature. Plain and simple. Normal operational characteristic. I'm suprised your not complaining that you can roll the window up AFTER you turn the car off too. This too is normal and mighty damn convenient when you forget to do it before you turn off the ignition.
