That should put things in perspective for him. As you can see, the truely "track tuned" porsches (the GT3 and GT3 RS, and Carreras) are indeed faster than the Evo. However, the 911 Turbo (which is one of the only Porsches that 99% of Porsche-wanna-be-enthusiasts know about...the other one being the Boxter) is slower than an STi or an S4....and that's pretty sad. </end shamless STi and S4 bashing>

the only thing that the porsche has on the evo is that you probably will get more tail in a convertible porsche.
but you can have 3 extra tails in an evo!!!
stats comparo:
evo- 3263lbs/157mph/271hp, 273tq
boxster s-2998lbs/160mph/258hp, 229tq
if the boxster gets a good launch he might hang for a while but the evo's 1/4 mile is over a second faster. it could catch up in top speed due to lower cd. i think the evo's lateral g's are higher also.

Then why did the Carrera S perform just as fast as the Evo, even though the Porsche had a weather disadvantage?
does this guy OWN a porsche he'll race you in? i'm guessing no. i'd tell him he needs to put his money where his mouth is and:
1) if he owns a porshe, hit the track with you one day and see how his car holds up
2) if he doesn't own one, tell him to buy one. remember, in this scenario you're the one with room to talk...you're the one driving the machine he's changeling and he's not even driving the challenger!

have him watch this...make sure he knows that power the fq400 has could be done with about $3000 into your evo. Either way....he will change his mind.

a boxster will get owned by the 350z on the roadcourse.. on an autox, the boxster will edge it out... now an evo will own both those cars either roadcourse OR an autoX... sorry dudes but boxster is the poor man's porche.. its just mediocre
I think it's a great testimonial to the engineering of our Evo's when we start life as a 4-door economy sedan, and end up with a vehicle that all but the most expensive Porsches have a problem keeping up with. Just shows there's more than one way to skin the performance cat.
best motoring did a race which included a 996 turbo and evo VII.
i know the porshe won the race but if i remember correctly the lancer was a close third behind a skyline R34 this race included a murciallgo, NSX, 360 modena, STI, and corvette.
from what i saw anything less than the awsome 996 from porshe would have had a bad day against the evo.
