The real issue is that the Mitsubishi dealers will probably not do as good of a job as you would do, and it wouldnt suprise me if they put in non-synthetic by accident.
The whole pit pass thing is nothing but a money making scheme. They would rather them make the money than someone else. There is a lot more money in service than initial sales.

Oh come on.. I take offense to this kind of stuff. Most dealerships don't have the high school dropouts doing the oil changes. Don't incinuate that a dealership is a quick lube with idiots who don't care-----please. In our dealership the Galant VR4's, 3000 VR4's and turbo eclipses are almost fought over (well the at least the nicer ones ) by 30+ year old Master technicians with the know how to tear the whole block/trans down and back in thier sleep.---Get real and grow up.

I don't blame for being cautious about maintenence requirements for this Evo after all They KNOW how you are going to drive it like a dumb high schooler hammering daddys car............If t decides to stand behind their product for warranty repairs....they can't trust your WORD maintenence has been done. In light of a $1000 repair bill...I'm guessing everyone here would streach the truth.

Cant' afford a $40 LOF??..then you dont belong in this driver seat.

Next issue please

It said certified tech so if some non evo certified high school dropout did change your oil i'm sure would take away their licence especially if it's an evo

I'm with TearItUp on this one. I'd much rather do it myself so I know that it's done right!

Well I am speaking from personal experience. On my Eclipse I went to have warranty work done. They kept me waiting for two hours and told me it was done. I looked at it and amazingly enough the supposed replaced part had the same dust and fingerprints as before (lightswitch stalk).
On my Galant a Mitsu mechanic so kindly replaced the timing belt, but just happened to replace or even retighten the tensioner. If I had known them I would have gone back and wrung their neck.
Maybe some dealers do good work, but many do not. They got a million people on their back asking to check this squeak or this noise or this car that feels funny, and honestly I can't blame them for trying to do everything quickly, but in many cases quality is sacrificed. I prefer to do it myself just to make sure.
Also my dealer would not let me provide my own oil, so I could make sure what went in there, so I never took it to them again.

Once again not all dealers are like this, but where I am they are. If people own an EVO they should really learn how to do at least an oil change and other normal maintenance by themselves anyway (IMHO).

Maintenence is done by people, last time I checked, so you'll get the whole spectrum. High school dropouts, car lovers, true professionals, complete morons, etc. I'd hope that the "Evo Certified Techs" were of the professional category, but I'm sure by mid-march we'll have a half dozen posts of idiot mechanics ****ing stuff up. It's just how it goes. Your one dealership is not indicative of all others being good, nor is any one bad experience with one bad dealership indicative that all mechanics and all dealerships are bad.

As for Mitsubishi standing behind the car, I'll believe that when I see it. MMSA and Mitsubishi service are entirely unrelated entitities who share only a name and a logo. I know that Honda's service certainly has not stood behind the S2000, and I expect the same crap with the Evolution.

Regarding affording a $40 lubejob, it has nothing to do with affording it and everything to do with value and quality of service. I can do a more thorough job for half the cost with twice the care - why leave it to someone else who may or may not be competent?

People who can afford a $35,000 + car can afford to have someone else change their oil. Most of these people could care less if its done correctly or not since they will sell it after 3 years for the next cool thing that comes along.

I had my Eagle Talon worked on at a dealer where my friend works and NEVER had a problem. I work with a former Caddy tech and I'll tell you he knows everything about a caddy like I've never imagined. So for me to have a dealer work on my car is not an issue. Several of my friends work at Mitsu dealers and are some damn good techs. Mitsu is probably spending a ton on getting these guys up to speed on this car. So I wouldn't worry about taking it in to get it worked on. What the worst that could happen? They have to fix it.

Plus think about the car we are talking about. A car that was purpose built to have the crap beat out of it. So, maint. is always higher. It's the price we pay for fun!

I think his point is that he personally knows a few good techs. That usually means they are good regardless of who's car they are working on. Knowing someone just gets your car fixed quicker than anyone else.

As far as the argument goes....I don't know any industry without **** ups working in it, so guess what? Do whatever the **** you want, just don't think for a second that the rest of us think exactly like you nor have we had the same good/bad experiences as you.

well if this is yoru first time owning a mitsu car b4 you purchase ask to have a tour at the service center see if they are one of the certify center by mitsu

if you like what you see then bring your car there

ask for these of us buying another mitsu we should already know the tech there and shouldn't have worry about anything
