Question How much is Evo maintenance going to cost?

It looks like the EvoVIII is going to cost quite a bit to maintain. In the tech manual, it even say that Mitsu is going to sell some kind of PitPass to the Evo buyers cuz the car requires so much maintenance. So let's assume we drive the car an average of 12,000 miles a year, how much do you think the maintenance cost will be on an average year?

Evo I-VII owners please also share your experience on Evo maintance, how much do you spend each year, etc...

Dunno about the price but if Mitsu requires that our oil is changed at a dealership then I won't be buying an Evo...

i aint worry about service if you truly love the car you souldn't worry 2 much the side money

maintance is like for us human drinking water everyday to keep our body healthy it is somethign you can't go cheap on it

here is my suggestion since evo requires cert. tech to work on it where you bought yoru evo may not have the best service plane you can always go to a different dealer for service but then you might ran into them saying you didn't buy it from us and when you do have problems they gonna send you back to the orignal dealer and the orignal dealer will then said the car has never been here they not gonna cover for the warrenty so after all if you really want the car prepare yourself all you really gotta do is first 1k oil change 3k 2nd oil change then every 3k for oil change and pay attention to the 15k mile service 30k 45k 60k etc
( these prolly will cost 200 to 600 )
oil change should be around 39 to 45 since requires sync oil

The oil changes are essential to the life of the vehicle. It is very important that you keep up with them.. But as far as warranties go, it doesn't matter where you buy the EVO from, any dealer can work on the vehicle, doesn't matter where you get it. But let's say you don't wanna bring it to a dealer, you can ask a local garage that you might trust if they do warranty work.. Most places don't because it's kind of a pain to do all the paperwork through the dealer. Also, Mitsubishi parts are not cheap, but that is also an important factor when servicing your car. Remember the phrase- "You get what you pay for!" Later...

I thought I read on the manual that the Evo only requires oil changes every 5000 miles and it uses only synthetic oil. So that cost should be cut cown slightly by the mileage between oil changes.

Sort of... I just would be upset that I would have to pay $40 - $50 for each oil change at a dealership when I could do it myself for only $25 or so. I would also have the confidence that it was done right.

the reason you want to change oil at 1k is there gonna be some wear and tear inside which you dont wanna have all these little tiny metal pieces can cause you a big problem in the long run thats' also why you dont drive hard b4 you broke in you it usually take 2 oil change to get rid of all the wear matrials and every 5 k is what mitsu recommand taht's only if you drive norma shift at 3k-4k and never go beyond that then the oil will last that long if you drive like me shifting at least 5k you wanna do a 3 k oil change and the dealer will recommand you to do it every 3 k also

should just change the oil by yourself. Go get a good floorjack and do it on your own. Most of the time the stealerships have some kid change your oil for ya. The one and only time I had my WRX in for an oil change (floor jack being used by eclipse) the freaking morons gave me about 1/4 quart too much oil. God.. had to take the filter off and put another one on just to bring the oil level back to normal.

If you just record the dates and your receipts of your oil changes the dealer should honor that. At least all the ones here do...

I don't think oil changes really count as service. I think they are talking about XX,XXX mile service/warranty repair type work.

$50 wouldn't be that expensive.

The e46 M3 guys pay $10 per quart for their cars

10x7 = $70 just for the oil(special oil you can't buy anywhere else except at the dealer)

I plan on changing my own oil they can't make you use the dealer to change the oil. If you change the oil your self document when it was done and save the receipts for the record.
