On Mitsu's website, in the picture it says "Lancer Evolution VIII" Why are they using the VIII designation now?

 

My guess would be is because it's still the Lancer Evolution VIII although the badging on the car will no longer keep track of what number they are on. A few months back I believe Mr. Hansen addressed this during a different discussion. He was speaking about how manufacturers use a number scheme with various models they make to allow for an easy way to distinguish them apart over the many years and year models they may exist for. Even though the exterior won't reflect the change in numbers anymore, I'm sure Mistu employees as well as the rest of us will still keep track of each Evo by it's number.
