So is the US Evo a RalliArt or Mitsubishi Vehicle?
I remember awhile ago you guys were discussing how it wasn't possible for RalliArt to pump out this many vehicles for the US launch, but now that all the info is out, what's the deal?
The guy in the webcast said they'll have RalliArt performance parts, but if what he says is true then the US Evo is probably a Mitsubishi vehicle rather than a RalliArt vehicle. After all it wouldn't make sense to have RalliArt parts (unless for replacement purposes) if the car had RalliArt parts to begin with...
Also, I don't suppose any place has any first or detailed impressions of what the US Evo drives and/or feels like compared to the older Evos?
Alex
ps. I wonder where that extra 300 lbs came from on this new Evo? Can bumper stuff really jack up the weight that much??

I believe it's going to be a manufacturer Evolution. doesn't mean it isn't going to be slow or have bad workmenship. I just means more of a productionline vehicle to produce mroe vehicles. Sooner or later they will mostlikely have an evolution ralliArt.... i.e.: like the WRX STi version.
Supposedly Mitsu took over production of the Evo 7 from RalliArt some time after it's initial launch in order to boost supply. The Evo 8 will be produced solely by Mitsu, with RalliArt responsible for the initial R&D I would think.

Thanks Rax!
Sounds pretty good despite what it seemed to have lost from the Evo7. But still, 3080 -> 3300 is a hell of a lot of stiffening... that there's extra weight for you to actually feel that it's slower isn't too good, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Ralliart is the Performance Division for Mitsubishi just like TRD is for Toyota and STi is for Subaru. They (Ralliart) will supply us enthusiasts with the go fast goodies, but as he also stated they plan to develop Ralliart cars as well later on like SLP or Callaway does for GM. So I suppose if you're really patient then you'll bide you time and get a Ralliart Lancer.
As far as the 300lbs...That's probably a combination of of the safety items and the insulation. You know us Americans don't like our cars noisey. Haa!

The STi is the equivalent of the EVO. The EVO extreme is the version massaged by Ralliart. I guess the Prodrive power pack is the equivalent that brings the STi up to 330 hp.
My feeling is that Ralliart will get on the performance side and offer the extreme EVO over here. With the 6sp manual, active yaw control and fron limited slip. But it would not be under $30k
Different marketing strategy than Subaru. Both are very nice cars and worth having.
Cheers
Nick
In Japan the curb weight does not include the spare tire & jack nor does it include fluilds... In the U.S the curb weight measurement is wet (includes all fuilds.. oil, gas, etc) Most of the remaining weight increase is because of crash reinforcements (ie. 2.5mph bumpers front and rear). The good news is a majority of the added weight is at the polls of the vehicle and if you want to shave 18kg just remove the spare tire and jack.
