If DCCD is like ACD, then won't that really matter in a street or road course environment? Isn't ACD just being able to select the tranny workings for what type of surface you're on? How many times do you think you'll need to switch the type of surface you're on while you're racing?

You're definetely right about that, it really doesn't make too much sense to have ACD if all your driving will be on-road. Im not sure exactly how the Subaru system works, but I know for sure that with any car that's costing me 30k will never see any dirt or gravel action. Imagine all that paint chipping.

While we are on the subject of the viability of performance numbers on paper, I would suggest you all go to the book store and get this weeks copy of Motor Trend....if you haven't already. Since it's the one with the 2 page Evo VIII article.

There is an article in there that explains how accurate magazine reported performance numbers are. For instance, they explain that the 0-60 times in magazines have a margain of error of about 2-3tenths. That means they could test a car one day and get 4.5 0-60 times, and test another car at a later date and get 4.9 0-60 times. IT all has to do with the person driving the car, operating tolerances for each specific car, and the environment.

So when we see that the Sti will do 0-60 in 4.5 secs, we really have no reason to whine when the Evo 'only' does it in 4.7. Because those 2 numbers are well outside what is statistically significant.

SC~ who knows his Evo is going to rawk.

ACD is really important. I'm sure when the computer deliver the power to the front or rear wheel at incredible speed will really affect handling.

I'm sure they will test JDM vs. U.S spec on the road course. I'm curious how much slower the U.S. version will achieve.

Does ACD really change things while you drive? I thought that was AYC. I thought ACD is only a selector, persay, to choose what you want to do w/ the center diff, but it doesn't change anything while you actually drive.

Well, in order to really see how things are with the ACD, you need to use EVO 7 RS or RSII without the AYC. The principle is the same, with addition that stock ECU code that controls the AYC interfere with the "dancing" capabilities of the rear end a bit too much. So, by taking one of those cars you would see what ACD is all about. And it would be something along to the following. Switch on the dashboard selects how much of the intrusion you will get from the system. Basically it locks the center diff the most (or the earliest) in the Snow mode and gets more (or longer) open in Gravel and even more in the Tarmac mode! That allows more power to the rear wheels and more rotation of that end as well. Since the dry tarmac is more grippy than other surfaces (snow, gravel, etc), you need more power in the rear to rotate the car. Also, amount of opening/locking of the center diff is also a function of the Gs, throttle opening and the most importantly steering angle sensor! So, the more you turn the steering wheel, more open the diff gets.

Lastly, the way the AYC works in the stock trim, is to control how much of that rotation is tolerable and cuts the effect once you go over from what they set to be the border in their ECU code. Simple switch to the different code (like the K2 tarmac unit) would make the whole thing much better!
