Don't think about the initial cost as being the big investment. Relative to the Civic Si there may be some additional maintenance cost.
If you are a spirited driver the first year will bring:
New brakes all around $1200+ for stock stuff at the end of the year
5qts of Mobil 1 every 3000 miles
Gallons of 91+ octane at $2.15/gal at a 19mpg rate
New set of tires after 8-10 months
If you are a active "I threashold brake into and touch the rev limiter at least once a day in second gear out the corner" driver:
New Brakes in 6 months
5qts of Mobil 1 every 2500 miles
Gallons of 91+octane at $2.15/gal at a 16-17mpg
New set of tires after only 4 months
Try to get the 45,000 mile maintenance plan from your dealer. My dealer covers all the regular maintenance, every 5,000 miles, up to 45,000 miles. I haven't heard anyone else mention that. I am curious if I am the only one? I still change the oil and filter at 2500 mile intervals due to my duty cycle.
If you are just cruising all the time on the highway then PM me when you want to sell the car a couple years from now and I will give it the life it deserves.
I figure by then my Lancer will be just worn out with many vivid memories.
Despite the costs, that first year with the Lancer will bring you some big smiles!
Good luck shopping!

I currently drive a 2003 Civic Si and when I started working this job I was ticked off at all the miles I was putting on the car. I slowly came to terms with it, but wondering if I'm gonna have the same issues again, if I get emotionally attached to the Evo
BTW, I had searched for this question, but the older posts did not discuss how many miles daily commutes were.

Its my daily. I drive about 20-40 miles a day. I've had my 03 since sept. 04 and now have almost 11k miles.
And I'm driving to Florida tomorrow
can't wait...my first road trip with the evo...and with my new turbo and toys, I should have invested in a radar detector...oooops

Mines a DD. I try to keep my miles right around 200 a week.
IMO, miles is dependent upon how long you plan on keeping your car. If youre gonna buy an evo and sell it 2 years later, just drive it man. However, if your gonna keep it 4+ years, like I prolly will, I don't want to have to sell a car with 60k+ miles on it. Basically, my rule of thumb is that I dont want to sell my car with over 45k on it if i origionally bought it new...that way someone or some dealership will actually want it when im done. I usually condier 45-50k the threshhold on 3-4 year old used cars where the used buyer is either gonna say "cool", or "ill find the same car with less miles". So i just figure out how much I should be driving from that... If i need a beater, then i get one. Simple.
A car isnt an investment, but it can be much more of a loss than anticipated if you dont play your cards right.
