MY EVO vs 03 COBRA
i honestly belive that it all comes down to money. put 10k into a evo or dsm and its going to go real fast. same goes for the cobra. actualy the same goes for just about any car. that being said, i will never buy a naturaly asperated car again due to the fact you would need to tack on about 5 to 10k more to get the same kind of power. like i said earlyer a group of guys i hang out with have mustangs and the only 2 that can beat me have 04 cobras. the rest of them stare at my tail lights.

Just an inane two cents.
I love the cobras; I love the old Z06's, and I will love the new ones even more. I love the Vipers, and I love Smokey and the Bandit... Good Lord, you guys are overlooking another masterpiece of American muscle - the last few years of the SS Camaros - sick. Ditto the WS6 Firebirds. Great cars.

I have a problem. I hate large-displacement front-engine rear-drive American cars. My personal theory is that Detroit has run out of ideas. Mustang? Oh! It looks like an early '70s example, but with worse fit and finish. Corvette? What are they going to do now that they have carbon fiber wrapped balsa wood floor boards? Perhaps admit the fact that they have been resting on their laurels for 35 years? At what point do you concede that the application of materials science isn't engineering? Maybe the Z07 will be made completely of carbon fiber, and displace 10 liters.
The Evo and the STi give us a glimpse into a completely different design paradigm: A 4-door sedan, when coupled with a small displacement engine with a lot of boost pressure, and all wheel drive, and a stiff, race like suspension, can provide a level of performance and fun that normally is reserved for the Porsche crowd. Well, more power to us! What are you going to do with that 20,000 you didn't spend on a Corvette?
I laud Mitsubishi for giving us exactly what we've all been wanting: an undiluted race car for the streets, and the NVH and suspension stiffness be damned. You know what I'm talking about, steering that responds almost to your thoughts, the best brakes we'll ever touch unless we hit the lottery, and an engine that just begs you to stand on the throttle, just so you can hear it sing.
We live in good times. Mitsubishi keeps sending Evo's that we can buy for the price of a moderately equipped minivan, and they keep getting better. Feel that pebble on the road, grasshopper? There's a new Evo enthusiast born everyday.
We as Evo owners, are extremely lucky. We have one of the sweetest rides in the land. We can drive them, we can show them, and we can race them. But there is no confusion; everyone knows that the Evo is a car to be reckoned with. Enjoy your ride, and be happy that you experience a joy that few drivers will ever know.

Good design is good design. Regardless of whether it falls into your tastes.

Most sites want to talk exhausts and neon nowadays.
I also slowed down and bought a naked bike. Then, I put a deposit down on an 05 GSXR1000. D'oh!

First, they make a good car in the SVT focus( or the really good european focus RS), then they take it away, they make an awesome truck in the lightning, then they don't make it for the new series., They put in IRS in the cobra, then they don't put it into the next one, saying "it's too expensive" now they bring out a new cobra and think cause they put Shelby's name on it, it is special. How much did Carol Shelby engineer into the car? Nothing....
anyway( sorry about being off-topic), here is my opinion about this whole deal:
The Cobra will win a drag race 9 times out of ten- It's designed for it . The exception will be a misshift or traction problem etc. But an evo actually has a higher top speed than a cobra. I am pretty sure, they gear out @ about 155, and an evo will gear out @ about 165/70. I'm not absolutely sure about these #'s and cannot back them up. i have only gone 150 in mine, and had 1500 rpm's to go and the car was still pulling. Here in Hawaii, i have seen cobra's running high 13's stock, and evo's doing about the same. a modded evo should be able to take a stock cobra, but i would still bet on the cobra, cause they are more consistant. @ the same time, a modded cobra would whoop on a stock evo. So why did this thread start again?

I didn't buy the evo to drag, just like most cobras didn't buy it to autocross/rally. it is a useless point. I personally do not like ford products. BUT it's from my personal experience. to be honest, i wish ford rould make up their minds about the way they support motorsports. they like to flip back and forth:

When will these people ever learn it comes from within.
And no, you may not ask me what "it" means.
Ask someone else.
I can only show you.

ok, so i have never raced a cobra @ the track. actually i've been to the local track twice and still didn't run yet. i used to go all the time, and the fastest i saw one here in hawaii run so far is 13.6... i will check w/ local owners what they are running. i have noticed that cars here seem to run a little slower than on the mainland. i think it's the hot weather or the humidity or something... oh well, i give up on this thread anyway.
