They are only good as a "pull over if your going to fast detector". Light travels much faster and dissipates quickly. Laser has to be used stationary in a "speed Trap" and has to be at a much closer range. By the time the electronics in a detector are triggered the gun is putting up your speed. Since Laser is a beam of light and invisible, It doesn't violate any law to broadcast the same wavelegth yourself. Laser jammers are just transimtting the same light wavelegth all the time to confuse the gun. Soon they'll change the light wavelength on Laser to combat jammers just like they have done with radar systems.

Development of laser was funded by Geico insurance. If they sell in your state, they donated guns to the LEO's. Otherwise municipalities will buy radar guns. They are almost half the cost and still write them plenty of tickets.

er, um. Radar is electromagnetic radiation. Which also happens to travel at the speed of light.

I feel that if you get a laser ticket you were not paying enough attention to be going over the speed limit. Laser radar is line of sight only, they have to be aimed very carefully, will not work through glass, and the range is not that great. If you are looking carefully you will see the cop before you are in range of the thing.

Many things are not being mentioned. Many cops in the slow speed zones, local cops, dont even have rader let alone lazer. Most still use VASCAR or FASTRAK. these are both time distance measurments and nothing but being aware will help you.
Second radar is not electromagnetic radiation. Radio Detection and Ranging is radio waves ie. sound waves. They move nowhere near the speed of light but 600 some odd miles an hour is plenty fast enough.
Jammers are effective for protecting yourself to a degree.
The Radar Jammers add a FM "chirp" to the signals that reflect off the car. This is a variable wave that will give the cops gun a varied reding thus leading to a error. Many detectors have a VG2 protection mode, this hides your detector from the cops "detector detector", It does this by checking for the presence of the VG2 system being used and will stop working when detected. yes it will warn you of the radar signal but will not jam the signal.
The Lazer jammers constrantly emit a invisable light, think invisable strobe light. This will jam a lazer gun but there is one problem, lazer jammers are cheap compared to the cops system our range to jam is nowhere near the cops range to detect. I got a ticket in NY, south of buffalo - orchard park to be exact. They give you a print out of all of the lazer guns info, I was hit at over 1700 feet. More than a quarter mile.
Jammers are great, I use Rocky Mountain Radar and I am very pleased with it but they all have limitations.

I read that the Rocky Mountian products are junk? Have you ever tested yours to see how much it really does using one of those signs that tell your speed or something with it off and on? Let me know I am really curious.

I have had the opertunity to test it using real equipment and it worked well, not perfect. The speed check signs on the side of a road are not a good indicator for testing jammers. A police system must recive 5 to 7 consistant readings befor the gun will display a speed, this takes far less than a second. The roadside speed signs only need to pick up one reading to display a speed, yes I have seen them change speed when I am the only car and I have had them display nothing - out of their range.

And we wonder why America is falling behind in science.

So even if you have the best Scanner its not a free pass to speed... i guess i learned the hard way....
There is nothing that can warn you about laser or instant on radar if they target you. The radar detectors work great if the cops are using it on people ahead of you... or if they have it turned on continously (some do that). You'll get a radar warning long before you even see the cops. The laser is a different story. If they target you, you are dog meat. However, I've gotten lasered (the alarm went off) but they pulled the car behind me...... I don't understand what happened....
Oh yeah, I'm not sure but I think the cops will very often inflate the speed numbers to get you. Otherwise it's one of two things (both are bad), either our speedometers are for **** and are not accurate at all, or worse yet, the radars, lasers, etc. are inacurate or just plain don't work right. It seems every time I or some other person gets a ticket, the speeds the charge are considerably higher than what we see in the speedometer...... Let's face it, the traffic enforcement seems to be a revenue generating system for many municipalities. I think that reckless / aggressive driving should be curbed. Excessive speed (as well as insufficient speed) can be dangerous depending on the traffic conditions, the problem is that tailgating, cutting people off and other things like that are far more dangerous but they are not aggressively controlled by the cops. It's easier and more profitaable to just target some car driving quite safely but above the arbitrary posted speed limit. Another dirty trick the cops use is to target people exactly at places where the speed limit changes suddenly and often with poorly placed or difficult to see signs. The best solution is to avoid speeding as much as possible, keeping your eyes open and being watchful at all times and using every tool at your disposal to avoid getting ticketed. Oh yeah, avoid driving yellow, red or other attention getting colors. Those are cop magnets......

This is pretty basic physics dude. Learn it.

I'll be the first to say it sucks you got a ticket. However, I use the passport 8500 x50 and its the best thing on the market today. Also you should of known from doing a little research that they are useless without a jammer. With that being said I'm a huge fan of the Blinder M-20. It has saved my *** almost 6 times now and still gives me a great laugh everytime I go by a freakin bike cop who has a dumb look on his face, on why his state funded donut making quoto device has not worked. I hate traffic cops and consider them all to be the kids in school who got picked on. Deff check out radartest.com and radarbusters.com for the reviews. You will not find a better unit than the Blinder M-20 but if you are rich go for the M-40 more jammers.
