radar scanners P*ss me off...

I have an escort passport 8500 x50.... Works really good unless you get lasered... When it goes off for laser its 2 friggin late the cops already got your clocked.... I was doing about 50 in what i thought was a 45 i saw a cop posted on the side of the road and bam "laser alert" slow down and the cops pulls me over asks how fast i was goin i say ughh 47 he says you know the speed limit i say 45 he says no u just entered a 35 zone and i clocked u at 53.... I know iwasnt going that fast but neways... I dont think scanners help that much these days they get the laser on you and by the time your scanner goes off it 2 late.... So even if you have the best Scanner its not a free pass to speed... i guess i learned the hard way....

er dude...the 8500 detects it but, yes its to late..thats not what its for..unless u have a jammer...any standard radar wont do much...the 8500 is only good for like X, and K band..which alot of cops use where i live...get a jammer...i heard they work well for some ppl....

yeah there's a link to an article somewhere on here about the best jammers to buy... it was quite informative...

because I agree, detectors don't do a whole hell of a lot with the radars cops are using these days.

X50 works great on KA out here in Cali, which is what the CHP uses quite often. Laser is another issue though.

i feel "why install one" because:

1 - it's ugly and it's all up in my face
2 - if i push the limits in moderation and under control, then i'm fine

all my humble opinion, of course.

Let me explain how radar detectors work. Let's say a cop is driving on the other side of the road and you pass him at a very fast speed. First off if his radar is off your radar detector is no good. If his radar is on you will be warned. Now say your the cop and you happen to notice (which will happen) in oncoming traffic this one car is moving faster than everyone else. What the cop will do is turn on his gun and radar you. Point being your radar detector is no good.

To sum this up the cop has to be sitting radaring everyone for the detector to really help out. If the cop uses Laser it is point and shoot so your out of luck. With a cop in motion the detector will let you know he clocked you so it's a good idea to get out of his way if he trys to come back for you. I hope this helps. My source is a few different police officers.

Its not a matter of turning the radar off to stop the beam from being shot out. Most radars have a hold button that will stop the beam from shooting. Then when the officer sees a car traveling at a high rate of speed the hold button is released, giving the officer the speed of the vehicle(hence making radar detectors too late). Most of the time officers use the hold feature when running stationary radar. Lasars will get you everytime but no many departments have them, and if they do not every car will have one.

Just my small 2 cents in my knowledge on this one. Bottom line is dont speed if you cant deal with paying a ticket!

Best cop detector out there is the MK I eyeball..... or in my case since I got LASIK the MK II Eyeball You said it yourself "i saw a cop posted on the side of the road and bam "laser alert" slow down and the cops pulls me over..." Sequence of events should have been "i saw a cop posted on the side of the road slowed down to the speed limit and bam "laser alert" and the cops had to sit there disapointed because he missed me"
