The Best Intercooler? & Why?

I am looking to get a fmic and I've been doing some research but, haven't been able to get much good info. I was wondering what you guys thought and why?

Can anyone tell me why a Bar & Plate is better than a Tube & Fin?

Why a Spearco BP is better or worse than AVO? or Perrin? or the Ebay core?

They are all about the same size... Right?

Is it just all about pricing and fitment? Is performance not a factor?

Has anyone out there owned more than one intercooler and can post a comparison?

ThnX!

From all the reports I've seen and what the fastest EVO's use...it's either AMS or Buschur Racing. Both are awesome designs...one is bigger then the other...but they both perform flawlessly!

I know how you feel. I spoke to many ppl, read threads, called companies. No one was able to give me a straight answer. Bar & Plate cores are heavier, more durable, can absorb more heat/btu's and have better cooling efficiency. Tube & Fin cores are acutally "Tube & Header" intercoolers. Because they both use fins but the Tube & Fin uses a "Header Flange". TH cores come in many different tube styles. Stay away from the "Extruded Tubes" they don't cool worth a sh**. Some even come with multiple small tubes ... ie... HKS uses 4 columns of tubes per row... between that and the header flanges explains why they have a 4" wide core versus everyone else at 3.5".

I went with a Nisei Engineering core because they were able to answer all my concerns. You should check out they other thread about BP vs TF cores / poll. I listed some specs. But here is a link that might help you to decide what core to get.

Good Luck! Hope this helped.

Everyone there are several good FMIC upgrades out there but I will list the reasons why I chose the AMS IC.

1. The fit is perfect so less headaches still have to trim the undertray just like every ic out there I know of.

2. The cost

3. Build quality is outstanding

4. Look at the EndTank Design. The inlet and endTanks are setup to use the entire core and not just the bottom so in theory it should be more efficient and work very well.

5. Race Proven in serval application/setups from stock turbo to 700+ WHP and it still hasn't hit its limit.

6. Less than 1psi pressure drop.

I hope it helps
