Buying my first Evo. what model should I get?

Hello.

I am on my way to buying an EVO. I was just thinking about buying a good, low milage 2003 maybe 2004 model.
But the resale value is just to high. I good 2003 model is maybe $24-25000 and 2004 $27-28000.
I just think this is to high price for a used car, when brand new 2005 cost MRSP $30,688
I just think that a new 2005 is just much better value than I used one for maybe $2-3000 less, I was think about buying a 2004 with 5700miles on it but the lowest the seller wanted to go was $27000
The 2005 also has the active center differential. I personally thank that is "cool to have"
but is this ACD system just a good bonus or is it maybe weaker system then the normal system in the 2003 and 2004. I plan on going to turbotrix and have this car tuned as far as possible with stock turbo and stock block. What hp numbers can I possible get ( it is a must that the car stays reliable) I plan on use it as daily driver.

it takes alot to make the car undriveable. If you plan on going on a stock turbo setup, get the 05. Its a plus to have the 10.5 hotside to begin with. With used evos, you can almost always assume the **** has been beat out of it. May as well get the 05 MR or the 05 GSR with SS&L for the HID's and have a damned nice car.

I don't beat the **** out of my evo, neither does my friend with his... I wouldnt say ^^ is a definite assumption, but perhaps a good possibility. And I wouldnt say that people beat the *** more out of evos than any other high performance car marketed toward young people.

Heres the deal, if you shop well, and check out any used car, you should get what you pay for vs new.

I bought new, and it worked out for me. 05's are nice. RS is a little striped down for me, but the GSR and MR are good for dd's. Either one is nice, personally, I think the 5k premium on the MR is a little steep for what youre getting, but thats in the eye of the beholder.

I am in the same boat that you are in. I will never buy a used car unless there are major rebates on them which there arent any on the evo. Working for CarMax has made me realize how much money you lose when you buy new, and I am not bein biast. I saw a couple of good deals goin around on 03s. Some on the board is selling their 03 Black Evo for 24k. I also saw some nice deals on 03 Evo on the CarMax website. I got my eyes set on a black and blue with one under 10k the other under 20k both price at 26k w/ sun roof. Considering I got quoted 31k on an 05 and they didnt seem like they were gonna budge on the RS model Ill save myself the 5k difference (more if I can get a discount) and buy me a nice 03. Good luck with your purchase.

Hey man, I'm another one right there with you.

The new ones are steep, and I haven't read yet if ACD isenough of a plus to be worth buying new.
What IS worth buying new is the warranty you are going to get with it.
But, if you can be patient enough to shop for a used one (certainly alot harder than driving to a dealer and picking out a color on a new one) you can find some deals.
Shop for one that still has alot of warranty.
I've seen 03's going for around $20k on some of the online ads (cars.com, autotrader, automart, traderonline, etc) you may have to travel.

It's just no fun to have to wait.
