Hi, Macster.

I too consider the Stereo in the EVO a bit "Out of Balance" and there for understand why one may want to improve upon it ...Although (I'm) keeping that stock too. I'm looking more to gage opinions on mechanical/electrical system as it pertains to the ECU/Engine/suspension and related components.

Next is a Basslink, however I will probably stop after I get my P2 Flash, down pipe and Stealth muffler. But the car is a blast to drive as it is, so who knows if I will really do the performance stuff.

4. I got a pothole induced bent rim with stock suspension, wheels and tires... so no garauntees on that one...
5. resale value? surely as a smart consumer you know that you NEVER trade to a dealership... you always sale it yourself to get maximum value. And mods help this car sale ( assuming your car is modded correctly )
6. get the work done by someone who can prevent funny noises, and tell you what they are if they occur
7. as long as you drive it right... your clutch will live regardless of power... besides the aftermarket clutches can smooth the car out a lot !

of course this is all just my opinion... no hate my evo brutha!

let's get serious. ANYONE whom hangs out on this forum long enough eventually gets the "bug" and does something to their ride. I predict that within a year you will modify at least two things on your car (emblems do count).

just my .02 though.

Well thebluesky, there is this one thing that I've wanted to do thats generally insignificant and very inexpensive. I have been wanting to add that factory RS rear trunk bar that I hear tightens up/boxes in the rear body bumper mount support points and may quell vibration. I'm not sure this is technically a mod anyway -but is kind of is too, I know- due to the fact that this is a design specific factory EVO piece.

Sorry to break it to you, but if your car didn't come with it, it IS technically a mod, even if it's factory spec.

edit: didn't read your whole post. It seems we are in agreement (somewhat).

I've had my Evo now for little over two weeks. There is no words to describe the fun factor of this car! Get this, I haven't watched TV once after getting the Evo!

Mine is still completely stock. I actually made a promise to myself that i would NOT mod it ever, but meeting one guy with a "beefed up" evo at the local track day I've started to have second thougts. I believe this feeling is quite familiar to many of you

However, all Evo specialists here in Finland say that connecting rods are the weakest part of the engine. This seems a bit weird to me since Vishnu for example makes serious mods without changing them. Have any of you had problems with this issue?

6500 euros would buy me new laptop programmable ECU, connecting rods, dump valve, carbon fiber clutch and 3" exhaust all the way after turbo. Price includes installation and all required dyno tests etc. Result should be somewhere near 350 whp and 500+ nm of torque. How does this sound to you, good or bad idea? Is it expensive in U.S. standards?

I'm still somewhat worried for resale value and technical failures that may occur. Especially since due to insane car taxation Evo is NOT a medium priced car here. I paid 57 000 euros for it... Okay, that includes extra studded tyres with wheels

crank/rods shouldn't be an issue UNLESS you 1. raise your rev limit beyond stock redline 2: are trying for insane amouts of horsepower.
however, we are getting a litte off topic and should probably move this conversation to another thread if you want to continue talking about this.

Also - realaize that the flash can be removed at a key stroke and the car reverted to 100% stock - all for free.

If you really insist of driving a car that is tuned to handle occassional 89 octane gas - thats cool but its so slow !

Realize that in Japan they tune these cars a lot more agressive

Most of my mapping is based on JDM Evo OEM mapping and ralliart mapping

My reliability record with over 1200 reflashed ecus out there is better than stock - thus far

I'm sorry but this really pisses me off. but this guy wants to talk with other people about enjoying the natural qualities the evo comes with. and within a first couple of posts a vender comes one here trying to sell a product. Al did u even read the article before trying to sell ur product.

You're right. Got little carried away which is not unusual when talking about this car, it just is so great

Well, that's a bit misleading. Shipping isn't free, and can run about $150, not to mention the downtime. This is for any flash, not just Al's. Keep this in mind.

Maybe we can have an avatar created for the "Evolution Mod Virgin Club", for members who's cars haven't had their cherry broken by an intake or a set of lowering springs.
