Sunroof or Not
LMAO
I could lose easily lose 35 lbs myself. Besides I plan on installing my 2-12" subs in the trunk anyways so losing 35lbs on the sunroof would be kind of dumb. I figuer I'll just have to make enough power to compensate for 1. My fat *** 2. My friends' fat asses. 3. My sound system and sunroof. Im going for the all around car not just a dedicated track racer. That'll come in the distant future once I can afford a daily driver on top of a race car.

Yeah - My Prelude has a sunroof. I don't use it much, but on nice days I really enjoy it. My Apex Silver Evo doesn't have one though. Anybody want to trade me a Blue By You WITH a sunroof?
As for the weight, I'd have a huge dump and quit eating so many pies. I've been told the easiest and cheapest way to reduce weight on your car is to quit being a pig.

35 pounds is an effective 3.5HP.
Get one if you want it. Its certainly your perogitive... its your car. But you don't get to complain about the heavier bumpers or the emissions restrictions if you are saying "a sunroof is no big deal".

Sometime between Feb 12 and December 2006...whenever they can get their ship dates right
im 6-2 and 275........ i dont think an extra 35lbs will hurt,,,,IM NOT A DAMN RACE CAR DRIVER AND NEITHER ARE YOU. But since the evo8 is 3 inches taller than a regular lancer, and with a sunroof the evo still has an extra 1" of head room than non sunroof lancer.
Im getting the damn sunroof.............
Im getting the damn sunroof.............
I think I'm going to go with a sunroof, if and when I get an Evo (I'm in the undecided between Evo and Sti camp). Besides, since I live in California now I think it's a requirement (as a recent transplant, anyway

I do drive a race car (on the weekends)... not that it matters...Hey, more power to you if you want a sunroof.
All I was trying to say was it kills me how many people will complain over a few HP restriction in to meet emmissions, or will install an intake to get a few extra HP, but will put a sunroof on their car (adding enough weight to be an effective reduction of 3.5HP, reducing structural rigidity, etc).
I'll shut up now... its certainly your choice, and I'm not trying to convince you otherwise...
jedinite, how does the E36M3 feel over the E46M3? I've driven a 330 which was a loner from my previous car e36M3 and the handling on the E46 sucks. I've heard the new E46M3 doesn't handle as well as the E36M3? Is this true?
jedinite I know exactly what you mean. If I wanted to rally race my evo (or whatever race style you like) I would care about the sun roof. As it is I am looking for a daily driver so my Supra can be the true project car it deserves to be.
You won't hear me whining about weight or the 5 hp lost versus over the pond. I'm grateful to be finally getting a shot at owning one. Also I think there is a lot of potential hp gain in BPU mods. That's just me though...
For racing I would want to strip everything and install the roll cage. Bye Bye interior, AC, Radio, spare (probably drop this anyhow), heater, sound proofing (if any) material, etc. etc...
At 6'6" and 235 lbs I am my own HP penalty.
I agree, to each their own...
EDIT: OH yeah, if you are in a stock class then you can't rip out the insides then, but you get the idea...

The new cars are certainly a lot heavier. But they still handle very very well. I've owned both a e46 328i (with sport pack) and an e46 M3, and they are still some of the best handling cars you can buy.
The e46 M3 is a far cry from the e36 M3. The e36 M3 was the best handling car in the world when it was released, and is still a dominant race car around the world. The e46 M3 has a magnificent engine, but puts on a lot of weight over the e36.
The e36 M3 just feels more like a race car... everything centered around the driver... like being in a cockpit. The e46 m3 feels like a luxury cruiser with a race-inspired engine.
To say something
to keep this thread on topic, the Evolution should feel more like the e36 M3 (i.e. road legal race car) than the e46 M3 (sophisticated street car with a race heritage).
(happy to answer any BMW questions by PM or email... or throw up a thread in O/T and PM me to let me know its out there...)
