You are free to disagree...but what I said is not wrong. I never said it was necessary to get a new BOV I just said it wouldn't be a bad first mod especially for the future if he plans on bumping up the PSI. As far as you getting 270 hp with the stock BOV...well congrats...it doesn't mean much if you don't state what PSI you are at. If you are nowhere near 22-24 psi range then you are within the tolerance for the stock bov, even though you may be pushing it to its limits. Nor does it mean that it doesn't leak at high rpm. Not trying to flame but my advice I don't think was bad.

As for the exhaust disagreement, I haven't put my 3" TBE yet but from people I know with eclipses and from what I have heard when you put on a TBE your boost pressure goes nutty. Spiking high sometime and not being very consistant. Yes it will work, but as I stated it will not work as well as if you get tuned for it.

So, I guess I disagree with your disagreement

- The exhaust does not require tuning to get power improvements. When i first put my turbo back on it felt great -- without tuning. You will, of course, get the most out of it with tuning. But the gains are significant even without.

You will, however, want tuning for an intake. Have you considered tuning alone? Not too expensive and has considerable gains.

- Gauges are a great first mod. I realize they make no power but it is great to have them as you can watch the changes the mods make.

Good luck,

as for the TBE for the first mod thats a great Idea... im also just starting out with an evo and looking for things to do... I talked to Chris at Logicperformance.com and he hooked me up with a turbo back for under $600, so go there and check it out he'll prolly cut u a deal!

Also if ur looking for just a K&N drop in (best way to go in my opinion) he gave me 1 for like $60 most places chare 70 or so... just check out Logicperformance.com, call and talk to Chris and tell him what u need he is a very helpful guy, I'm sure he'll set u in the right direction!

I guess I am just following the Vishnu path
Stock intake, stock BOV
I will probably need to upgrade the BOV at some point, I just don't think it is a good mod to start.

I definately got more power, faster spool and more boost with just the TBE
Lots of ways to skin a cat.

Here is my stage 0+ -- TBE and Xede tuned for 91

What kind of gauges should I get????? Any web links would be great!!!

Like I said I don't have a lot of cash now and also I want to mod my car without my wife knowing.................for the time being that is
Thats why I can't really do a tbe right now......she'll hear the difference. I do have the cover off of my intake box with elastics holding the filter down(I know it's getto) but she hasn't said anything about how louder the sound is from that

apex power intake. It's just a filter with a maf adapter that uses the stock intake pipe. You can use the apex filter when you upgrade the actually intake tube. Apex filters, from what i've researched, are the best.

lol, gauges are a dead giveaway!

I would get a reflash. Good power gain and she would never know.

I would skip the intake. Just drop in a k&n filter if anything. Exhaust, downpipe, highflow cat, headers, shortshifter, new clutch would be my mods. There is a reason Vishnu tuning dont sell intakes.

If you have to get a BOV get the APS one it works great I have a EVO that hate BOV s HKS, blitz there VTA they made my car undriveable even with a reserc kit. EIDS is a good tool if you want a VTA . But with the APS BOV its recerc and low boost range when your at WOT it opens to the second chamber making it a VTA. It s 2 in one I LOVE it so far and the car does to. But like everyone said intake require tunning or your car will be slow. Look at gruppe-s get a full helix exhuast its the best for the money in my opinon. Best luck to you .

It is a known fact that freeing up the exhaust reduces the psi just slightly on our Evos. This may just be an Evo specific phenomenon but many Evos have encountered this when they mod the exhaust. Apparently the backpressure from the stock exhaust causes the car to lose a couple of psi and thus a boost controller is necessary to bring the psi back up. This is with or without tuning.

The TBE is the best mod for this car and the best bang for your buck. Like everyone said the intake only works well if you have tuning and I would recommend either the Buschur or the HKS because they work well with tuning.

Save your money for the TBE - be patient and you will be rewarded with a kick-*** mod on the exhaust. This would be my suggestion...

1) Exhaust - Buschur is really good and inexpensive
2) Downpipe + Hiflow Cat or Testpipe
3) Full Intake + Tuning
4) Boost Controller + Boost Guage
