Don't worry about the rust on the header, they all look like that. Mine had 6 miles on it when I bought it and the header looked like that as well.

The rotor is fine, next time after you wash your car look at your rotors, they will all look rusty like that in just 10 - 15 minutes. That is normal, like someone else said just use the break a little and they come right off.

As for the price since it has 195 miles on it I would definitely try to get the price down to $32K range.

One good thing about buying a 05 Evo MR, GSR, RS is that the car comes with a 5K rev limiter when the clutch is depressed so you don't have to worry about people launching the car hard when it was test driven.

195 miles is alot. That basically means that for the 1000 mile recommended break in period 25% of it was basically used up and abused. Also 41000 is a very high price. He is probably stating that high cause he figures you will counter with something low and meet you in the middle. If you can I would try to find out what they were selling the car for when it first got on the lot before it was test driven so much.

Hmm, interesting. You think I could get them down to $32K since it has almost 200 miles on it. I wonder how much I'd have to offer to put down with a deal like that. Maybe $2000-$3000?? Thanks for all the feedback about the rust, I'm pretty sure at this point I should look at that as a non-issue.

Are you trading in your Spec V? If you are make sure you get your car appraised first then talk price on the MR. Other wise they'll give you a good price on the MR but lower you trade in, it's a number game but play it safe.

I think 32K is reasonable since it has been sitting at the lot for that long. 32K even sounds about right.

My header was the same way and I got mine with 11 miles on it. I wouldn't sweat that but work them on that mileage, someone had some fun with it IMHO, I would look for one with less miles if you are worried about that kind of thing. I personally think break in period is a myth but that is another discussion.

I've given them every indication that I will buy and sell, not trade. The dealer even suggested EBay since my car was in such good condition. I may end up trading in the end, but I never mention a trade until a price is agreed upon. Once I get a price, I can spring the trade on them.

I got an online appraisal for what my car is worth so I'll be going in with a good idea. Most of all I'm patient when it comes to these things, so if I can't get a good price I don't mind holding off on buying for a week or two. It's amazing how willing a dealer is to call you once they know you have good credit.

From an experience I had, I totally agree with the miles issue. I looked at one Evo that was "new" (not demo, not used) with a tick over 500 miles on it. I basically told them that they would need to drop about 1K per 100 miles for me to be interested, which they weren't. Worked out fine, I got a better deal on a new one than they were willing to give. So, careful of the miles (as people don't drive them too nice if they're not buying them), but if you get a good deal...jump on it. It is under warranty, and it is an MR, so I'd definitely have a hard time walking away due to a mileage issue.

If they seem unwilling to sell the car around 32K just tell them you would rather look for a car with less miles on it if you were going to pay above 32K. Since it's been sitting on the lot for so long I'm pretty certain they will try to sell it at all cost. BTW it's mid month but if the car is still there on the 31st of this month (that's if you didn't buy it already) go out there again and offer them your price. End of the month is closing for the salesman they want to do everything than can to sell that last one for the month. My brother was a car sales so he told me a lot about it.

195 miles is a lot especially for an engine that is touchy during the break-in process (<600 miles). If those are "test driven" miles, I'm sure it was not babied. You're supposed to keep the rpms under 4000 for that period. Even though that car comes with 10yr/100,000 mile warranty it is still a serious consideration. If nothing else good bargaining chip. As far as the rust goes mine came off the truck with 7 miles on it and the rotors looked close to the same as those. They put somethinig on the headers to keep them nice, so mine looked new. It burns off in about 100 miles. I personally wouldn't buy another sports car that has been test driven by anyone. The mechanic and myself are the only ones to drive. If you can talk them down then go for it. I paid 35 for mine with 7 miles on it straight from Japan. The MR is an awsome car . Good luck.

It is possible the car was a dealer trade. Miles don't always come from test drives. Dealers trade cars all the time, and for the most part, they are driven from one dealer to the other. Obviously, this generally happens in the same region, so you usually won't trade with dealers from cross country, but you get the idea...

$35K is a great price, I think you will find it hard to get it for below that price. Honestly, $32K is a dream, those who are suggesting that probably haven't bought an MR or haven't been laughed out of the dealership yet, dealers need to make some money too ...... Don't worry about the 195Miles .... there are different theories to the whole break-in process, some follow the manual and what others say by keeping it below 5K rpm, others (such as racer car driver and mechanics) suggest beating on the engine during break-in to help the rings seal ..... Nothing to worry about .... I'ld say take it for $34.5 -$35K if you can ...

you should be able to buy it below msrp. i got mine for 35000 with 12 miles on it when they first came out. so if they don't want to deal look around at other dealers. some dealers near me want 42000 for them. thats ridiculous. good luck

I think you're right. I'd love to get just under $35K, $32K and they probably wouldn't take me seriously. $34K might be a good number to open with, then let them talk up.

Thanks, that's all good advice. I got the dealer to tell me about the $500 Friends and Family Rebate, but he said I would have to get the VIN off of someone elses Mitsubishi, and that a VIN could only be used once. So I'd need to track down a friend with a Mits, then offer to split the $500 with him.

As for $500 cash in hand, that's no problem. I counted on putting more than that down. Still it's good to know what they will be looking for!

Hey it doesn't hurt to ask, 32K is what I would start with.
