Jeez dude, do the research before you type, the final drive ratio for the six-speed is different.

Who cares about which is cheaper. These are Evo's not civics. You want a cheap econobox, start there. If I was going to put $10k in mods, who says that would change if it was an MR or RS. I am not going to spend less on mods becase of the trimline or base cost of the car. The motors were not evenly matched. My Stock MR put 235whp/255tq to the wheels stock on a conservative MD at Aerocomp. Other MD's would have been over 240. They got a lower powered example for the test and the writers already admitted the RS was the strongest motor. The same test with different evo's would even further distance them. The 6sp is worth $5000 itself to me and its not just about gearing, the shift lever, shifter action, teflon coated cables, tranny cooling fins etc are all different. I thought about an RS for the wife but up close the car shows why it is priced like it is.

Yeah I am sorry it's such a huge difference 4.529 for the gsr and 4.583 for the mr. That's why the top speed on both cars is 157mph. They made minuscule changes to the gear ratios throughout the 6 gears of the mr. Maybe you should do a little research.

Then why did you state and I quote, "All it did was tighten up the gear ration and not change the final drive." Let me reiterate, you said, "not change the final drive". That was all I was pointing out. I figure if you didn't know that final drive was changed then you didn't really understand the nature of the beast.

Let me explain further. When we did the acceleration portion of the test, the Evo with the lowest horsepower (according to the dyno runs we did) and highest weight (MR) was faster than the lighter, and more powerful in this case, VIII. How would you explain that? The first part of the run where gear ratios are equivalant (first through third) they are pretty even then from sixty on the MR starts to pull away from the VIII. Again, how would you explain that other than the gear boxes?

Top speed on a stock Evo VIII (of any type) is ECU regulated and has nothing to do with the final drive ratio. Once you eliminate the electronically regulated speed cap, our Evo's will go well beyond 157, at which point a combination of aerodynamics, hp, and final drive ratio will determine your actual top speed.

The title should read, "is 20 feet worth $5000?" The RS is to stripped for me. For the extra $2000 over the RS you get the Wing, Radio, Full Power, Sports ABS, painted handles and mirrors, and sound deadening material, plus a few other things that I am probably forgetting about.
