Very upset with Freehold Mitsubishi

I would like to thank Freehold Mitsubishi for what they have done to me. My car was dropped off Monday because it was having some problems and was scheduled for service the following morning. When they called me the problem they stated was that “the crank pulley sheered off the bolts due to over rev” which I and a few people I spoke with found to be kind of strange. They also said that they would check the crank shaft and after doing so they told me the motor had “crank walked” and that this was my at my fault so nothing was going to be covered under warranty. Before they got to check the crank the repair cost tallied $725.00 in parts and labor to replace the crank pulley. Once they called me and told me about the “crank walk” they stated they don’t know which parts are needed yet but that it would be at least $1700.00 in labor fee’s alone. They way they said that they were not sure of which parts would need to be replaced made me feel that they were going to charge me for a completely new crank, bearings and all those parts that go along with that which would run around another $2000.00 through the dealership. So with out getting very mad since I had been very nice to these people even though they are trying to screw me financially big time I told them I would discuss it with a few people then get back to them on the subject. I made a few phone calls and explained the above situation to a few of my friends who range from general managers at other auto dealerships to very experienced tuners and they all said that this is wrong on the dealers part not to mention that this would be costing me on the shy side of $4,700.00 if not more total. I made the decision all though not final yet to have a very reputable tuner perform the work on my car and also build up my bottom end a bit for a fraction of this $4,700.00. I called back Freehold Mitsubishi and told them to stop all work on my vehicle which barely any had taken place and they are still charging me over $400.00 for the “labor” that was performed on my Evolution which was taking off the crank pulley and getting the bolts off which is no where near 5 hours of labor. My car is going to be flat bedded to a friend of mines home who is a very reputable Evolution tuner in the import world and we are going to order the parts and take it from there.

I just wanted to let you all know what has happened since I posted last night about the crank pulley. It is just upsetting to me and I would like some of your opinions on this matter. My car is still at Freehold Mitsubishi and I will be picking it up tomorrow afternoon.

I also suggest not dealing with this dealership. They are known for trying to screw people on finance rates, lease rates and warranty work. I was actually bringing in three people tomorrow afternoon to purchase vehicles. A 2005 Lancer Evolution MR $36,000.00 (a co-worker of mine), 2005 Montero Limited $36,000.00 (my aunt) and a 2005 Eclipse Spider GTS $31,000.00 (for my cousin as a birthday gift from my aunt). Because of this incident they lost over $100,000.00 in 3 sales that were all going to be brought in by me to them because I thought they were there to help their customers. After they sell you the vehicle and get you to sign its like they don’t want anything to do with you which I don’t like but hey, that’s life.

how far did you over rev it. that crank really had to walk to snap those bolts.. no rev limiter?

thats horrible man.

If you didnt really over rev bad and you dont really think its something you did to mess it up I would look at getting it to another dealer... <shrug> cherry hill, shrewsbury, pt pleasent... somewhere cause it should all be covered under warranty.

alot better than you shelling out 4k'ish .

Personally if sh*t like that happened to my evo it would be being fixed by warranty by some dealer ASAP free of charge. Scream, complain, call every **** in the planet. I WOULD NOT pay anybody to fix it.

my 2 cents.

do you have any mods done?

An over rev situtation would show it self in the valve train, no way would you shear the crank bolts... and im not 100% positive but I think the ECU doesn't store an kind of maximum rev value so they are more then likely talking out their *** on that one.

FIGHT IT!!
you shouldn't have to pay anything.
