Al, I see you have 2 flashes available. One is just a plain flash for $199. The other flash requires a Dynotune. How can I get the $399 flash if I live in Minnesota.

I am talking on a stock MR, not a highly modified one.

Also, as far as buyer beware I don't want to see Vishnu or Dynoflash have a war of words on this forum. I like the fact that everyone is chiming in because I want to get a good concensus from different people by their personal experience and then make a decision for myself.

Especially when I am about to drop either $995 for an Xede or save considerable money and just get the reflash through Dynoflash.

Does one offer better programming than the other?
Are the CAS replications the same?

Thanks!
Programming

The resolution/granularity of a reflashed ECU is the same as a stock ECU. That is, the fuel and spark timing tables offer 15x18 and 19x20 table resolution, respectively. The RPM (0 to 8000RPM) and load (20" vacuum to ~23psi of boost) breakpoints are fixed.

The XEDE offers up to a max of 20x20 with user definable rpm and load breakpoints, allowing the tuner to put them where maximum resolution is most useful (usually around peak torque and at very high rpm). As far as tunability and resolution goes, the XEDE is the superior tool since it is not handicapped by hardware/software bottlenecks.

CAS Replication

Reflashed ECUs do not replicate the CAS signal. They dont need to since they don't modify it. Spark timing is completely dependant upon the values in the spark advance tables, not by the replication/phase shifting of the CAS signal (which is what the XEDE does).

Hope that answers your question. If you have anymore, let er rip.

Cheers,
shiv

btw dont compare xede with dyno flash. compare the xflash ($400) with the dyno flash. that is a more fair comparrison. from what i understand both allow free flashing for new mods you may get, both are mail in, but the xflash's advantage is that you can trade it in and pay the difference and get the xede when you have more mods and need more tunability and or 2 fuel maps (1 for street and a high octane one for race).

Do we really have to re-hash this subject? It has been beaten to death. I doubt we will come up with anything new on the subject.

Can the new guys just do a search? Plenty on this subject out there.

Mods, PLEASE lock this thread.

Well, do you want to be able to make adjustments at the track or on the dyno without a computer flashing device? Can't do that with a reflash.

Do you want a tuner who has been at it for a long time, or one that just got into it?

Read lots and decide who seems educated in their discussions. Ignore all the "i got this and its awesome". Find the people who have swapped one out for the other, and make sure their comparisons are legit. As in, someone isn't comparing a off the shelf Xede map with a custom flashed ECU or visa versa.

lets not start a war now between products for the billionth time, Each product offers different things that people can choose between for them selves. Each product has different pros and cons do your reasearch on other threads like someone already said and choose from there.

So just do research, I dont want to see this become a whos better then who battle. ALL tuners have put countless hours, and research in to their products and ALL have great products. You have to make the decision.

Has anyone done am independent test on all these ECU flashes from all the different manufacturers?

What I mean by that is, has anyone taken a stock EVO 8 and placed each one in the car and then done actual 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests on both the track and dyno?

By the way, I did a search for about 4 hours one day and there is so much information out there it's almost impossible to filter through all the information.

So for me it's easier to post a thread and get some replies. Regardless, everyone has been kind in their input so I see NO reason for you to shutdown the thread prematurely.

Hey Jimmy, I am new to the tuner market again, my prior experience was with my 93' AWD Eclipse. Since then, I have owned, modified, and raced Camaros at the 1/4 mile track for the last 10+ years.

So now, I have this awesome car called an EVO MR and I want some legitimate information on improving the factory ECU tuning.

For you to come in here and not offer any advice and request my thread be shutdown when no one is getting into anyone else's face or starting trouble pisses me off!!!

How would you like it if I came in and did that to a thread of yours?!

It's inconsiderate and I don't personally appreciate it!

I have just as much right to start my own thread as you do, so bud out!

We are basically tired from the my tune is better than yours and my STi is faster than your EVO). You have said it yourself so much information can be found regarding this question and I am sure that you are not going to get any extra info. All you are going to get after few pages is trash. I would recommend calling both tuners or even all tuners on the forums and see which one treats you, gives you the best offer for your tune and for your money. Furthermore, going cheap is not always the answer so don’t look at the price first (last thing you should look at when moding a car).

Good luck
