what if

what if madza made a rotorary awd like the evo.
they are about to release a v6 awd with similar ayc and 5-10 hp more than the evo, more luxury.
whats your take?
I for sure would buy a a rotorary awd even if it had ford guts

sure... why not?
what was the original problem with the rotary design? wasn't it over heating problems or something?

actually there were several awd rotary mazda RX7's that were 1 off's built in the 90's for the US rally series. IIRC Rod Millen drove them and they were quite successful.

the main reason the 1 gen rotaries left the US was that they couldn't meet US emission requirements easily.

Sorry, I would rather not deal with blown apex seals. Would this engine be turbocharged or not?

i think that they are coming out with the mazdaspeed 6, if you have gran tourismo 4 then you have seen it in the game. it is supposed to have 280hp awd and be a 4 door sedan that looks like the mazda 6. i dont really like them and if the the seal problem still exists then that suxs.

i wouldnt count on the new 6 being a "evo beater", and the problem with rotaries is that mazda attempted to apeal to the masses with a car that needed alot of care/service. granted you could so all of it yourself but most people wouldnt, and had problems. i have owned two, and have a good freind who has owned 3 (all generations) i never had a single problem in either, but then again, i added a quart of oil every two weeks.

I couldn't stand no torque, a problem which would be further compounded by awd.

The Mazdaspeed 6 is definitely NOT an Evo or STi beater.

turbo 2.3L inline 4
274hp @ 5500rpm
280lb-ft torque @ 3000
6700rpm redline
6 speed transmission
active torque-split AWD
rear LSD
ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and traction control
curb weight 3589 lbs

The Mazdaspeed 6 starts out with 100% torque to the front wheels. It can transfer up to 50% to the rear when it senses the front slipping.
0-60 is supposedly about 6.2 seconds. Not even close to the Evo.

That Mazda must be a heavy car -- producing that power and having that acceleration -- crappy gearing or it's a hippo.
