Evo 8 Vs S2000
Powerband in the S2000 is from just under 6000rpm (when the VTEC kicks in) up to
9000 so over 3000rpm range.
We don't have much more usable power in the EVO so this is not an argument.
The S2000 is a complete fun-ride and well driven not slower than the (stock) EVO.
When it comes to big hp get the EVO or be ready to pay a lot of $!

Hey let me tell you I've owned both a modded Type-R ( I know its not an Sk2 but similar) and a 366whp Evo 8.
The Type R was definatly much more fun then the EVO. It was more tossible and the sound of the engine SCREAMING at 9k always made me happy. There was nothing like it and if I would do it over again I would have never sold my ITR.
The evo on the other hand was a freaking BEAST. I loved the feeling of driving around knowing 98% of cars that you run into on a daily basis can't touch you. Hell I was yet to lose when I sold mine. But that was it. It was sooo fast that I couldn't use 80% of the power in daily driving and the gas milage straight up sucked. The build quality was very sub-par and the dealership were crap.
The only reason I would shy away from the Sk2 would be the convertable top. I'm in NJ and the only convetable I'd get would be a hard top vet.
PS - You should also look into ITR's. You could get a 2001 with decent milage for 15-18k.

Apples to Oranges comparision. I replaced my '04 S2k w/ an MR back in Nov. For pure driving fun, go w/ the S2k. That gearbox, suspension, topless & Honda reliability is hard to beat. The S2k is also a great platform for Auto-Xing. It does have it's shortcomings that's already been mentioned. Too small, no room, etc.. if you can live w/ the 2 seater and live in a warm climate, go w/ the S2k. Love my Evo MR, but I do miss my S2k on sunny days.

Dunno where you live, but if it's anywhere that it snows/rains a lot, then I'd say Evo, hands down, because of the AWD. I used to think my Evos handling was great ... then I took it onto some dirt roads and the handling went from being great to being GODLIKE. The Evo is just amazing to drive on dirt/gravel/snow. On the flipside, if you live in a sunny state, then I'd probably have to go with the S2000 ... you just can't beat a convertible for fun, especially one with a 9K redline.

I can speak on this, since I have owned an S2000, and now currently own an Evolution.
They are both very fun cars to drive. The S2000's powerband kicks in at roughly 6k rpm and pulls fairly hard to redline (9k).. The Evo is MUCH more powerful and will wipe an s2000 off of the road in a straight line.. However.. NEITHER of these cars is a drag car.. But sadly.. many people try and make the s2000 a straight line car..
In the corners I feel good with my Evo and my S2000... the S2000 handled amazingly well, and I have never driven a car that shifted as smoothly as the S2k.
As far as the "most fun to drive".. I would say its an even trade off... In some turns the s2000 seems very fun... but then coming out of the turn the Evolution has the power to plant your head to the seat...
However.. if you plan on driving the S2000 as your everyday car... It WONT happen.. Unless you live somewhere in Florida or Cali... i tried driving it in the snow one time..... Never again would I even attempt that...
Drive them both... Its personal preference... But I won't even think about trading my Evo for anything right now!

i had an s2k also.....it was fun to drive but IMO the car was way to over-rated. yeah it had mad hp but the torque isn't there. i had a 93 civic w/ a JDM ITR motor built by JUN Auto that i had more fun in......but civic's just get stolen too much....especially is san diego.
anyway, go with the evo, it's way more practical...and just knowing you have a fast @$$ street car out of the box is pretty cool too!

I've logged over 100K b/w 2 s2000's and over 70K in my evo. If you can only afford 1 car, then go for the evo hands down. IMHO the s2000 is ALOT more fun to drive in the spring/summer/fall than the evo. You CAN NOT beat driving on a warm summer night, with the top down, music thumping, wind blowing through your hair, rowing through those tightly spaced gears, hearing the engine spinning at 9K, and having a hot chick next to you. There is no other experience like it!
Everything else is obvious: evo=4 seats, evo=moddiblity, evo=awd
