Evo 8 Vs S2000

Im at work working the whole night and one of the janitors just got a used 2000 s2000 for 22k from his dads friend...spent about 30minutes just drooling over the thing...iv always wanted one of those and have driven a friends 01 back in kansas city...BUT iv always said i would get a used EVO 8 RS when i get out of school, shat maybe even a n MR evo..so just have to ask which one do you guys think is the best platform that is FUN to drive...i dont just want a car that is fast, i want something i get excited everytime i drive...this would be for track, autox, spirited driving, no drag racing.

no doubt the Evo is definaly a more fun car to drive.....nothing compares to the handleing(sp?), and speed (fun factor). i would go evo for a great balance of a fun car.

The only thing s2000 has going for them is the convertible and the 9000rpm redline. The evo is more fun in all the other categories..

obviously you've never driven s2k hard.

evo is overall better car, but fun factor stock vs stock or slightly modded, s2k is far better than evo.

When that vtec kicks in at 9000 rpm (1st gen), you could feel all the power just pouring in all at once and it's different from turbo kick. it's more violent.

You can't go wrong with either one, but if you want something with AWD and space, i would go with an evo.

convertible driving, can't beat that though. The spring is here, finally.

haha I realize this, and I posted the exact same thing on the s2k boards just to get different opinions...like I said, I want the more "fun" car to drive...I have driven an s2000 and it seemed very fun and iv only riden in the backseat of a evo 8 with a dealer...he took a couple corners quick but nothing special...I realize the evo 8 will be faster in almost any racing, but im not looking for the fastest car im looking for the car that will reward me with its ultimate uber badass driving feel

Im coming from the mr2 turbo world, which is a small 2 seater, and I guess I dont want to loose the feeling I get with my mr2, as it being so small and "feeling" the drive rather than just being really really fast but no fun...iv also owned a few other 1G turbo dsms and a 300z twin turbo which were different, but didnt reward me as much as my mr2 I have now.

i don't know about evo's being faster in any races. s2000 with the right driver who knows how to control the tail end of the rwd s2k, they usually driver faster in the course and auto-x.

if i wasn't so damn big, i would of bought a s2k, damn car is so small. no glovebox, bump on the passenger seat.

castrophobic as all hell. That's probably why they made it a convertible. lol

Fact...S2000 is boooring unless you rev it like you stole it, then the power band isnt even harsh. It is just 'sorta powerfull' and how often will you be between 7,500-9000 rpm? about 3% of the time. You will have ALOT more fun in an Evo bro. Ive driven them both and own an RS. Just be patient man. Used Evos will be 15k in 2 more years.

Also...just to get an S2k to run in the 12's you gotta drop like $6-7k on a blower or Turbo. The EVO can run 12.80@110 for $2500 or less depending who does the modds.

man, i don't know where you get the idea that you're only at 7500 rpm to 9000rpm only 3 % of the time. Unless you're 80, you're on redline the more than 80+% of the time.

hey, i have no complaints about my evo, but come on now, fun is fun and s2k is fun car to drive if you're not a freaking speed demon.

You make very valid points...I realize that the EVO is much easier to power(much like any dsm)..but I guess I was just worried about the evo being "to good" were the fun out of driving would be takin out by all the new electronics I hear about on these cars...then again thats prolly mostly the MR with its active yaw and what not correct?

btw, how do you like the RS? I dont plan on getting one as a daily driver, so the RS seemed almost a perfect option and a steal for 27.5k.
