Perhaps those with voided warranties can chime in here. I personally paid the extra $2k for the extended warranty on my car. Now a lot of vendors/tuners are saying I should just cancel it and get my $ back. I'd prefer to keep it because I was promised it assured a no nonsense fix of whatever goes wrong, provided the mod did not cause the failure.

Now, for the sake of argument, say I bring in my car for a problem. And it's deemed that it will not be covered due to mods, subsequently my warranty becomes void. Do they refund me the extended warranty then or is there some disclaimer that allows Mitsu to keep the $?

if the extended warrenty is with the dealer i would keep it. MAKE SURE IT SAYS IN WRITING THAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE MODS ON THE CAR. if it is a EW from mitsu get your money back ASAP. this is the best advice you will get on it. i assume you can get your money back as long as you get it before the standard 3-years are up right?

mitsu hates fixing stuff on cars for free so if your trans goes and you have an Intake and exhaust on your car they would most likley turn you down because the heat from the bigger pipe of the exhaust cause the gears to overheat in the trans thus breaking them

 

The extended warranty is from some third party company. I was assured the the manager verbally that I would have no problems, which I suppose is probably moot. I think it works in conjunction with the 10yr 100k mile warranty.

I was told I could get a prorated refund should I choose to cancel it.

 

Confused.....why would you need an extended warranty if you already have the OEM 10 year driveline warranty ???

 

Its a bumper to bumper 10yr/100k warranty, not just drivetrain. I got the same thing and wondered the same. I got mine from a very friendly dealer though, so I hope its worth it.

 

If what ever the dealer is telling you and it is in your favor get it in writing. I had this extended warranty on my sti and was assurred several times that mods will not effect anything with the warranty. But when I went in for something stupid I was not hitting full boost I was only boosting at 7.5psi I was not even running a mbc. It was because the orphas in the vacuum line was not working properly. Well it took the dealer 4 days to figure that out and when they did they told me that it was not covered under warranty because I had mods on the car. I had explaned to them that I had the after market warranty so it should be fine but the service manager then begin to tell me that I did not purchase the parts from the dealer so therefore the warranty was no good anymore. I did get the money back for the warranty and only ended up paying for the parts (luckily it was under a 5 dollar bill) but still if they would have told me the parts needed to be bought for the dealer I would have said no to the warranty and I would have not been out 500 bucks (thats what I lost from the cost of the warranty to what was refunded to me)

 

get ur money back from the dealer. the manf warranty is good enough and if they ever give you crap about mods pull up the law..(posted on here.. help guys) and throw it in their face... unless your mod actually caused the prob.
evostevo's comment about how ridiculous they can be is true.. but there is no way in hell i would take a bs excuse like that from the dealer if they came at me with that.
get your refund and put that 2k into payments or mods.

 

How do you go about getting your money back? Do you have to do it by a certain milage? I'll have to go to my parents house to find the paperwork.

 

you people dont pay attention, the evo's do not have the 10/100 warranty. they have the standard 60/60. now it all depends on what dealership you take your moded evo to. if you take it to a dealer that doesnt know how to work on them then yeah they will most likely void the warranty, but if you find one out there that know how to work on them and you tell them up front what you have done and how you drive it (dont tell them you drag it though) then they can work with you. take for example: i get about one evo a month that needs the updated sychro's put in it. now these evo's vary with mod's and when we update the transmission, we offer replacing the clutch for next to nothing, now the customer can either replace it with a stock or aftermarket, but they get their clutch replaced for a fraction of the cost, get their trans fix for free, and still have their evo warranty. but on the other hand if you took it to another dealer around here they will say one of two things: 1) "sorry sir, but you will have to take that to ***** Mitsubishi, they know how to work on those, 2) sorry sir but with the aftermarket parts on you vehicle we can not fix your car under warranty. ok so now im starting to forget what i wanted to say, guess i've been ranting to long. but take it to a dealership with a younger service advisor, that is your best bet.

 

I did pay attention when I bought the car, it did infact come with a 10/100 warranty, I have the paperwork to prove it.

 

but not all evo's, now they ran a promo for the ext'ed one but it only covers powertrain

 

That is correct, and what we're talking about is an extension to that promo on the bumper to bumper to 10/100k which cost $2k

same here, i didnt pay anything extra for the 10/100 warentee, or the 4 year maintence free program.

 

I guess i'm not being very clear? Yes you get the 10/100k drivetrain waranty at no extra charge, what we paid for is extending the BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty to 10/100. Which covers everything else beyond the drivetrain.
