First time racing my evo (1/4 track)

I didn't do very well. I only got 2 runs in before it started raining, I've never launched the car in the street, I wouldn't really consider how I race it at the track a "launch" anyways, I thought I'd have a 12.XX but nope =/

Before I put down my slips, I just want to say that this is how I drive. 3500 rpm launch, I shift out at 7000 or a hair under. I will continue to do this too, the reliability is more important then the e-***** waggling of having awsome numbers.

I ran a 13.8 @ 108 my first run, I bogged it so bad it wasn't even funny, it was also my first launch of the car....so give me a little here....

second run:

R/T .....391
60' ......1.929
330 .....5.524
1/8 ......8.485
MPH .....81.59
1000 ...11.020
1/4 ......13.136
MPH .....107.66

I would say both of your runs where good considering it was your first time . I know people who have done 14's their first time. Good job.

I think the car has a lot of potential, but I'd rather do mid 12s still launching at 3500 =p

Going to the track is fun, huh? Just don't get *too* addicted... lol =]

Just to give you an idea of what you have potential for... I ran a 12.544 @ 107.36mph (slower trap than you)... but then again, I'm mysteriously the lowest trapping evo I know for my E.T's...

Hehe, don't be afraid to get some extra grunt from the launch at the track... I know beating on your car can be scarey, but you might as well give it your best effort @ the track, and drive conservatively on the streets... it's how I look at it. =]

What's the point of having AWD if you're not going to use it. As you allude to, going to 3500 rpm from a stop does not constitute a launch. Your boost doesn't build, and you just bog terribly. A 1.9 60' is atrocious. You should be doing mid 1.7s (if you launch hard), but at least 1.8s if actually try but don't do so well. I used to hit better 60' times with my FWD eclipse (1.81 best). If you wanted a fast car but never planned on utilizing its greatest asset (AWD), you could have gotten 390hp (RWD) in a cobra for about the same money. Believe me, I am with you when it comes to not wanting to screw up my tranny/clutch from excessive launches, but if you're at the track, you might as well see what you can do.

As another guy stated, you can hit mid-12's with 108mph. To give you some more examples...

'90 Talon TSi AWD - 12.110@113mph 1.63 60' Rockingham Raceway, NC
'93 Talon TSi AWD - 12.45@108mph 1.71 60' MIR, MD
'91 Eclipse GST FWD - 12.58@110mph 1.81 60' Jacksonville, NC

Yes, you can't compare DSMs to EVOs 100%, but they are very close. My Talons weighed a little less, but they also had no suspension mods, which means that my *** end squatted to the ground with my front tires almost lifting off the ground, then when I shifted to 2nd, the whole car would rock back and forth. The EVO just goes straight as an arrow, which saves some time. When I run my MR (stock), I'll let you know what I get. If I can't pull 1.7s out of the stock clutch, then I may change my mind.

Our cars don't build boost with the cluch in....everything else I agree with you, and if you can't tell, I'm pretty much a wuss in my car on the street. I'm thinking about putting an ACT clutch in this month.

Congrats man. That's very good for the first time out. You'll easily be in the 12's with a couple more runs of practice. With a 107 trap I ran a 12.8 @ MIR.
