Will void warranty for cat back exhaust?!?!?

Hey guys,
I just asked the service department at Schaumburg Mitsubishi about putting a cat back exhaust on my car and maybe some lowering springs...only to get laughed at. They told me that the exhaust would void the warranty on my turbo and the motor. And that lowering springs would pretty much void any warranty that the car has because it "changes everything". So could some peeps up in the North West Chicago area give me some help with a more "mod friendly" service department?!?!

Thanks for your help
Jeff

they cant void your powertrain warranty because of an exhaust, if you install aftermarket items, like an exhaust and your wiper motor sh*t the bed they have to fix it because the exhaust didnt cause the wiper motor to fail. The part u installed has to or add to the cause of the failure.

Im actually very familiar with the law's about warranty. I had a z06 before that my dealership was very friendly with modd's. I would just rather not get into a fight with the service deparment if i dont have to..ya know?

Catback won't void your warranty. I spoke to Mitsu DSM about this, who I believe is based from Chicago. The service department at Schaumburg Mitsubishi is full of it. Just ask them to call the DSM, they are in for a surprise

yeah, but you're ultimately gonna get your driveline warranty red flagged if you catch my drift.

any exhaust modification should only void the exhaust portion of your warranty, it wont directly affect any other part of the car to the point of failure, and if they say different and void any other part of your warranty they are full of crap, and yes the exhaust should include up to the downpipe, so if ur cat burns out it shouldnt be covered. but dealerships are stupid

Oh no no, they will claim that your cat back adversely affected the ECU's ability to properly moderate the a/f ratio and compensate for any issues you have down the road. x 1000

Springs will void every other part because you are causing the car to flex too much and operating at a much lower height than what Mitsu intended.

Seriously though, find a different dealership. This dealer WILL void your warranty and blacklist your vin if they feel compelled.

your best bet is to not modify the car, even a catback. i value my warranty!

i wasnt saying they wouldnt do it. im just saying they legally cant do it. my friend is a mechanic at toyota and he said a guy came in with a blown engine and they voided a warranty cuz the guy had an intake on his car wats funny is scion is part of toyota and they put parts like intakes and springs and exhausts on cuz they know it doesnt adversely affect other parts of the car only reason exhausts are even on the car is for emmissions and noise purposes if companies didnt have to put them on they probably wouldnt so they could save money. where as mustang and chevy dealers dont care. neither do most high end companies that would be like mercedes voiding ur warranty for putting on a brabus exhaust. its unheard of for real companies to be so picky. so find a dealership that actually knows something. or u may have to fight them to get warranties covered. because they just assume you dont know any better

Id find a new dealer if you must. A bit off topic but how is the change from your Z06? I know power wont compare til you mod up but otherwise how do you feel with the EVO? When I was car shopping, I narrowed my choices to the EVO and the Z06. Obviously we can see what I ended up with.

I went into the dealer for service last week, went for about 3 rides with a tech, and the service writer. The tech told me it sounds good. They didnt show any concern for it, i guess it really depends on dealership if they care, but in the end if you give them a hard time they cant void it for the catback, unless they prove the catback caused the damage, same thing goes with anyother mod.
