Mr + S-afc
This thread is old. SAFC was great for not having to spend money, but EcuFlash >>>>>>>> SAFC.
With my MR, I'm clinging to the hopes of actually making use of the long warranty, so I'm trying to gain power with the least obvious mods. I already posted my baseline dyno run (248whp/238tq - Dynojet), and now I'm going to get some baseline 1/4-mile ETs to see what the MR is capable of in stock form (in my hands). I'll be doing that Saturday. As of tonight, though, I have prepared/installed my old S-AFC using the patch harness so as to avoid cutting the ECU wires. I plan on dragging WITHOUT the S-AFC on Saturday, but if I am able to get some really solid runs right away, I will try to keep it at 2 baseline runs. That would allow me to connec the S-AFC with some conservative, but useful settings and see what sort of benefit I can get. Without a logger to tune between now and then, I am unable to get my settings just right, but I do know from my dyno runs that I start running rich at 5200rpm, then get extremely rich by 7k rpm (<10).
I did several searches, but I found no instance of anyone doing any 1/4-mile runs while stock with just an S-AFC. I know it's a mod and therefore not stock, but I look at it as releasing pent up HP that is restricted by conservative ECU settings rather than a power mod related to equipment. If anyone has tried this, let me know. Most people just get their ECU's reflashed, but I know that can immediately void the warranty, so I'm giving this a shot. I already had the S-AFC, so what the hell...

Do yourself a favor, get the flash, it can void the warranty yes, but I highly DOUBT the dealer will take the time to check the computer. IMO playing with the SAFC is a lot more dangerous, even though you can just unplug the harness, with the flash you really don't run the risk of running lean because of settings, because....well, there is no settings.

I don't just want to be able to tune on the fly as I add mods, but I also want to be able to tune on the fly when I add race gas and up the boost while at the track. I will have optimum settings for street and race that will both change according to temperature.
word~
plus 2 settings on safc ii.
one for fast, the other for mind altering.
That and all the monitoring thingy ma giggies.

Yes, the dealer will check and will know that I had a flash done, so your doubt is unwarranted.

From your name and experience with the AFC I'll assume you came from a DSM...? It's just like tuning a 2g. If you can get a hold of a logger you could really dial it in.

Nice times.
Insted of the three fuel trim's your used to there's only two (STFT & LTFT). You can't see knock anymore, but it can be interpreted from the timing curve. Target O2's are .92-.94. Does this look familiar?

I have to say that local people have had the SAFC II installed with more mods than me but they weren't as fast. I just don't think that it is as efficient and a custom tune. Warrtalon you might be proficient at tuning through the SAFC II but the average Joe on this site shouldn't have their dick skinners any where near their ECU.
BTW, your dealership must have a reason to check your ECU for a tune, ours here in P-Cola doesn't give a **** one way or another. However, most of us don't trust them with our cars so we wouldn't go there either way unless something big broke.
Good luck with your testing....
