smaller oil filter?

well, just got my oil change at one of those 10 minute oil change place with holes in the ground.

they gave me this oil filter which looks like the same size core as the oem oil filter but without the outer ring.

it bolted on and everything...

here is the question.

I'm gonna be auto -x this weekend, driving about 10 hours in highway.

smaller filter gonna be ok? I don't know why it's smaller, since the opening is the same and the core ring is the same size.

thanks for ur input.

i'm thinking if this is gonna be a problem, i'll just goto autozone or pepboys and get a filter and have them change it.

i know that mitsu has two sizes for the EVO. as i understand it the bigger one is recommended, but the smaller is fine. not postive, but everytime i go to buy one from the dealer they ask which one i want.

Smaller I know mitsu changed the oil filter. Just keep your reciept when you buy them from the dealer.

i think the question is, did the oil change place use the correct size filter? i've had shaky experience with places like jiffy lube and what not, and now change my oil and filter myself. If the filter they provided is the correct application per the manufacturer then i think you're alright. i just hope that the shop installed the correct filter.

anyhow, in the case of oil filters, i dont think size matters. for example, i use the mobile 1 m1-108 filter, which is the correct application for our cars and it is substantially smaller than the oem filter. IF the shop used the correct filter, then i dont think the smaller size matters.
