Amsoil Users...

I wanted to give feedback on my recent oil change. This last change I went with the Series 3000 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (HDD), this is the Sixth different oil from Amsoil I have used in my Evo. First I started with the ASL 5w-30, then the ATM 10w-30, then the SSO 0w-30, then the Dominator 10w-30, and the last change before my recent was AMO 10w-40.

With this change my cars seems to idle better then it ever has before and the turbo is quieter then ever. I think this is the best oil I have ever put in my Evo. Now because it is made for Diesels, it made for Turbos. That's why I think my engine is loving this oil. For years I had used Mobil 1 5w-30 in everything I have owned. And it is night and day going from Mobil 1 to Amsoil.

I have also tried different filters from OEM, Fram, Amsoil, Bosch and WIX. It's hard to say if you notice a difference with the filter while driving but you can notice a difference in the oil when you drain it.

Because I chage my oil every 3000-3750 miles there is really no sense in running the Amsoil filter. Fram is crap... OEM was good, Bosch was better and the best has seems to be the WIX.

When I took my oil to get an analysis, the Wix seemed to filter better then OEM and Bosch. I never tested my oil with the Ea or Amsoil filter because I'm sure the filter was doing it's job.

So next time you are changing your oil you might think about the Series 3000 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil. Just my two cents.

"Fuel efficient formula for both gasoline and diesel fleets. Contains the beefiest additive package of all AMSOIL Motor Oils. Delivers better wear protection than other popular diesel oils and effectively reduces fuel consumption. Series 3000 resists oil breakdown from heat, blow-by chemicals and oxygen up to ten times longer than conventional oils."

Sounds good to me. I would have never thought about using diesel oil in a gasoline car. It seems to be safe and as long as you keep having great results, I'll try it out. I'm using Motorcraft Filters because I work for Ford and get them cheap .

Also, if you go to Mobil 1's website, they say the best oil for a car running E-85 is a diesel oil.

Great Articles!

Can you rank the different Amsoil oils you've used? I usually use the Signature series, now i'm trying the 5w30 high performance.

1. Series 3000 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil
2. Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil
3. SAE 5W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil
4. Dominator® Synthetic 10W-30 Racing Oil
5. SAE 10W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil
6. SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Premium Protection Motor Oil

I went with the 10w-40 when I installed the FP Red and it just takes to long to warm up.

Now if your somewhere that gets over 100 F in the summer time, It's best to run a little thicker oil.

Not necessary with synthetics these days because of how well they hold up to temp.

For example SSO 0W30 its flash point is 446 F leading me to say it would do very well at those temps.

However some folks preffer a thicker viscocity because it gives them piece of mind, and i have nothing against that, so you can then run a 10W30 or even a
10W40 if running high boost 24lbs and above.

With it being a year later, just curious if u still are using the Series 3000 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil and if u've come across a down side of using it?

Apagan, I'm running 26 psi and have 5 quarts of SSO along with amsoil filter awaiting next oil change.

Should I be OK with SSO @ this boost level?

Thanks

Here is my setup:
HTA Green, supporting mods with E85 conversion. I'm boosting 31 psi across most of the power band and holding 28 in the redline territory.

Currently I am running the AMO 10w 40 and to be honest I dont really like it especially since I have an OEM head/block and on top of that its really cold out. Honestly since switching from 5w 30 oil to 10w 40 I noticed as if the car lost some HP and even normal driving seems as if the motor is running more load with the thicker load. This was before the big temperature drop. Even MPG's seem to have suffered.

Would you recommend going with the Series 3000 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (HDD) or Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil. I'm going to guess the HDD would be better pick since it is assumed to be better for E85 conversions... However if the SSO 0w 30 does the job I'll go with that. Either route I just want there to be enough protection for the HTA green turbo and the oil to be thin enough like when I was running the Mobile 1 5w 30.

Correct,

you will see drop in MPG, power with a thicker oil,,, i highlly reccomend you stay with an oil thats high in zinc and phos, you have an FP turbo however i am not sure if the green has the steel breaings on steel shaft, call FP and find out.

If you plan on running the oil at higher drain intervals then go with SSO 0W30,,,, but i would opt for HDD hands down this oil is high in zinc and phos and has the low viscocity for this winter, reason i say is simply because the type of turbo you have.

let me know if you have any other questions,,,, i hope i helpped
