Viper 791XV Car Alarm

I sure am posting a lot of threads tonight!

It's about time I bought a car alarm, I just paid 1450$ off of my credit card and I think this and a V1 are in order. Has anyone used this alarm? It looks to have a lot of features, and I hear lots of good stuff about Viper. I was thinking about picking one up off of eBay, they go cheap there (200$) and having it installed by a guy I know who runs a shop that does this type of stuff.

Any thoughts on this alarm?

Alarm in question: http://www.directed.com/security/vi...onder.asp#791XV

Thanks!

Have to disagree on Compustar being the best. DEI has preved themselves over and over again.

I have the 791 on my car, but I dint hook up the remote start part. I just use the turbo timer part and the alarm/pager part.

ONLY bad thing I have found is that when the car is broken into is the alarm remote only beeps for abour 10-15 seconds. Other then that its A++++

I've heard many people say this. What exactly do you mean, because I have no idea how to install an alarm. I have this exact alarm system, and they spent like 5hrs installing it. Then I had other features added like tilt detection, glass breaking module and extra battery.

wow guys. im planning to get the same alarm, however just the 691xv, i believe the model number is, the only difference is that it does NOT have remote start...

i definitely would not put remote start on a manual transmission car. its just too risky, having in mind that you will be having the car for years, and a possibility that a single time you might leave it in gear..

besides neutral safety swtiches, most remote starts from manual transmissions (including the viper and compustar i think) utilize the turbo time to arm the remote start system. you need to get out of the car and lock the doors with it running (turbo timer) to have the remote start work the following time. if the doors are opened the remote start is disabled (since it could have been put into gear) but otherwise the remote start will work (since if you left the car with it running it cannot be in gear). it's relatively safe

I have the Viper on two of my vehicles both with remote start, I really like it and I have had no problems. The alarm is made by DEI and they make some pretty good alarms. The remote works on an AM frequency and can sometimes be a problem. For my evo I had a crimestopper model 2010 I believe installed with remote start (hard to find someone to install it on a manual car), these are FM remotes and are supposedly better without as much interference I guess but I really don't see the difference.

I have had the Vipers for over 2 years now and they are still holding up just fine, the only problem is that you have to keep a closet full of AAA batteries cause you will go through 1 every 3-4 weeks if you use it.

That's probably because you have the LCD light up with every push of a button. I disabled that feature and it's lasting a while now.
