used to do it all the time in my integra when the starter was bad. An attendant yelled at me for it, but I asked her if she'd help me push start my car if i turned it off. She declined, so I continued pumping.

Isn't it illegal everywhere in the US? You can only pump gas into 'approved' containers. I thought that a running car was explicitly prohibited.

That cant be a good idea......i would think it would be a common sense thing to turn ur car OFF when ur pumping gas.

they tried all kinda stuff even shorting batteries out... somehow i would bet it was some kinda static when coming out of his pocket Vs. the celly doing it.

its not a loss off vacuum that makes the car stumble.. well sort of.. there is a sensor in the tank that that tells the computer to have the motor idle like that.. so you dont leave it running.. i know cause it was another usless sensor i unhooked when i put the autronic in..

um... it's not really a drawback to turbotimers, most of them have at least a way to turn them off.... and always shut your car off, what's the point of leaving it on? so someone can steal it?

OBDII cars are suppossed to throw a CEL if the gascap is removed or loose to prevent gas vapors from escaping. Yet another CEL for enviormental reasons. Other than that, it shouldnt have any effect on the engine.

fueling up while the car is running is no different than opening the gas cap while the car is just idling. It won't blow up. The car already has fuel in it. Adding more won't make a difference. A cigarette will not ignite fuel, it will ignite fuel vapors though. If you put a lit cig into a cup of fuel, the cig will just go out, no different than putting it in water. But if you sprayed fuel into a balloon and put a lit cig to the balloon you will get a nice fire ball.
