Alchohol/Water Injection install
Alchohol/Water Injection install
I took off work Monday to give 03BREvo8 a hand installing an Alcohol/Water injection kit for his Evo. He's already pretty well modded (intake/exhaust/MBC/cams/upraded FMIC/tune) and this is his next step toward making the most power he can on the stock turbo.
He bought the kit from Buschur and everything came really well put together. This injection kit replaces the stock reservoir and pump for the IC sprayers with a modified reservoir, computer controlled upgraded pump, braided liquid line and pre-throttle body misting nozzle.
This first picture is from underneath the car, looking up at the stock reservoir and pump...notice how tiny the pump is.

Next, look at the replacement unit and check out the new pump

After mounting the bottle and pump, we drilled into the upper intercooler pipe to mount the jet and ran the braided line to it.

Next, we ran the wires and the boost line to the control unit inside the cabin...Brian has it mounted in the center cubby for now. The control unit has lights for "System Armed" "Spraying" and "Low fluid" you can also adjust when the spray begins (he has it set to 20 psi now) and when the flow reaches its max.

This is a quick shot of our little 4G63 party in his driveway

The alcohol/water injection is meant to cool the intake charge. With this setup he should be able to safely run 26 lbs of boost...
i was really impressed with the quality of the kit and the ease of intallation. hell, brian sat on his *** for most of the time and i was still able to get it done quickly

his is always armed and starts to spray at whatever pressure you set it to kick in at. the controller has a boost sensor so a simple tap of a vac line is all you need to ensure it kicks on when it's needed.

How long will a fill up of the alcohol/water mixture last? Also where do you buy the alcohol from? I'm uncertain if I should get this mod since theres not much else I can do with the stock turbo.

apparently he's some sort of concerned about being with his newborn
what a weirdo. but i promise, as soon as he's back to tearin' up the streets I'll write up a quick review for you guys. From the standpoint of build-quality, i would say that this kit is fantastic. Install was a breeze and fitment was great mainly because of the use of stock parts/mounts/etc. i talked to him today and he said during a brief test yesterday he could tell that it sprayed when he hit 20 psi. I only talked to him briefly today. its just too bad that the install is all i can comment on right now...
That looks like the Buschur deluxe upper i/c pipe... did you install the jet right after the very last bend before the throttle-body? I was trying to think of where the best place to put the jet would be, seems like you're right on the spot... maybe a little closer to the rubber coupler.

drilling through the pipe was "interesting." it worked well when we masked off the whole area around the place we wanted to drill. the kit calls for a 25/64" hole...(who the hell has a 25/64" bit laying around?!?) so i shot for a 3/8" (24/64) and carefully over bored the spot. It was a good plan to dimple the pipe with an awl, then drill a tiny pilot hole, then go for the big one. with the fitting under the pipe, the connection to the braided hose was easy and clean.
i really can't emphasize how impressed i was with the kit...its a nice product
