I'm not sure waht the HKS eids is.... But I do know one thing, the EVO does not respond well to mods if they are just slapped on without careful thought and tuning. I'm the poster child for fugged up EVOs (with my last '03 EVO VIII)..... I agree with Event-Horizon about the intakes but not about the BOV. The stock valves seem to be prone to leaking. A good upgrade is the jdm MR DV.

I think there should be a law against VTA and stock ECU/MAF.
Anyone caught using this combo should be banned from posting about their "problem" until such situation is rectified. :P
And until such due process, he/she should be called "Uncle Ben." :P

There is no point in getting an EIDS, it will only half-solve the problem. It basically "tricks" the ECU. It doesn't fix the underlying problem, which is that you have a draw through MAF and are expelling metered air.

If I throw on a full turbo back system will this even out my problem because on my 04 evo I had the K&N typhoon intake , blitx DD bov and full tb system and It ran perfect.

wow.....

re-read what everyone has said. The short answer is NO.

Tuning is VERY important with these cars. End of Story.

BTW, the K&N typhoon is the worst of the worst with respect to intakes.

I no the typhoon claims to be the worst but it worked great on my last 04 Evo. I had huge gains from it. The apexi I have now is just a filter. I dont see why I'm not seeing gains. I understand what everyones saying I just think I should see gains like my last Evo did. The blitz is a vta also.

Please, please don't fall into this trap. Your car runs like crap because you installed an intake (without a retune, reflash, standalone) and to top it off you put a VTA dump valve on.

Please, before any one mods their Evos, please read old threads that contain information on the above mods in no uncertain terms.

Put on a turbo back. That's you best bet first off.

Sorry, but you will have to either send your ECU in for a flash or get some sort of engine management such as an XEDE or an AEM. The ECU is car specific.

If you want to stay on the cheap side of things you could go with this flash: http://www.vishnutuning.com/evo_cannonball_flash.htm

Dude ur problem isn't the intake... besides its not an intake its a FILTER... lol... ur problem was the same 1 I had for the longest time... trying to make the greddy type s VTA is impossible. It leaks when VTA no matter what u do it will leak... believe me i know!!! i tried the MBC to bring the boost back up and i hit fuel cut at 19 psi... well i put the bov back in the stock position and turns out that 19psi it was reading was really 26-27psi. if the kool noise is what u want go buy one of the dual port bov's... they r loud and sound good and really reliable... also with the greddy and the open element filter u should be able to hear it just fine nehow. hell u can hear the stock one very good if u have and open element filter... so just vent to intake or spend another $300 and get the better bov. Oh and get flashed, ur cone filter probably is ok... but if u go adding a hard pipe it will really screw things up, plus a flash is $200 and ur ecu is back the next day good as new and u pick up like 20-30 hp... so do it ! lol hope this helped ur troubles and u dont go throught the same crap i did trying to make it work!
