SACF vs Flash
wont beat the mail in flash if its flashed but the people you got your mods from.. IE stag 4 Buschur= Buschur stg4 flash... as long as i stay with Buschur its all set..

Flash is definately pro if you live in the middle of no where. safc is way more convenient and cheaper if you live near a good shop, plus it can be fine tuned and redone when adding modes without ripping the car apart.
We can get dyno tuning in this area for $100 an hour on a mustang dyno..which makes the safc way more practical.

blue wire mod? do I need to search for more info?
Just wait till more DSM'ers pick up Evo's.
In 2 years time you'll be embarassed to say you have a flash.

blue wire mod degenerates the narrow band 02 signals to ecu in time, that's why it's not recommend it. Because it causes the ECU to read lower 02 signs then it really is, which causes all sorts of problems in AFR and Timing control.
Also, it's still reading the narrow band, which is fairely inefficient.
I might just get the plx m500 instead of m300. Mind as well get something with the datalogging capability.

Also look @ his setup, you don't need countless mods. Just few bolt ons, cams, and safc.
that's fairely good number for that car.
but you know, he's running cames, with bigger injectors and fuel pump at higher psi.
I would like to see how my timing is with the flash. I really need something quick (wideband and datalogger).
I still think i'm pulling timing pass 5000 rpm.

that was beautiful
i have a mail in flash right now but something is not right...... i have 2 options right now
1) PLX m-500 or r-500 and tune with my AFC (get flashed back to stock)
2) get a used Utec and a PLX m-300
im also going to get a EBC either Biltz or HKS and sell my boost gauge and MBC
what do you guys think i should do

For what it's worth, I don't think it's a good idea to go with MBC or EBC.... Without some kind of fuel control and timing control you run big risks of damaging your engine. This is no bull, it happens a lot. PPl just don't realize what they have done and wonder why their cars don't make good power
As far as I'm concerned, your best bet is to run some kind of EMS. It could be an XEDE or similar type of piggy back. Or it could be some sort of stand alone. For a daily driver and good driveability, emissions testing, etc. I think the XEDE works best. Also, you don't need to mess around with boost controllers or any dangerous, complicated and expensive cr*p like that.
Of course, it goes without saying that you must have a custom tune performed by somebody who really knows what they are doing and using some type of dynamometer. Oh yeah, the SAFC can be used to control timing in the EVO. As you change the fuel mixture, the ECU will either advance or retard timing to avoid knock. If you run too lean, the engine will detonate and the ECU will retard timing. Likewise, if the fuel curve is correct, the ECU can advance timing as needed and you get more power.
Some pppl are getting good results from flashes, I did not get the results I expected... (that was with a custom "street tune"). Also, the reflash cannot be easily changed, you must have the reflashing tuner handy and the dyno as well. I don't think mail order flashes are a viable solution for tuning purposes.... Oh yeah, once you reflash, your money is gone. If you don't like it or if you want to trade cars or whatever, it's just money spent (mine flash lesson cost me $600+). An XEDE (or other piggyback) can be sold pretty fast and you get at least some of your money back.
