I have seen worst.
My friend was racing a r33 skyline last week after installing new pistons and rods 2 weeks before and the whole bottom of the plug broke off in the cylinder

natrium, not nitrate filled. idiot tech...

natrium is sodium like salt.

"natrium-filled exhaust valves reduce valvetrain inertia and help engine response. The natrium exhaust valves also help lower the temperature of the bell end of the exhaust valve by retaining less heat."

I've never heard of "natrium", but I believe they are sodium filled valves. There is a huge difference between salt and elemental sodium however. Sodium is a highly reactive metal, and when it is exposed to water it basically burns. If you were to cut open a sodium filled valve in a high humidity environment, it is quite possible that a reaction would occur, so although the tech may have been confused, he's not far off the mark.

EDIT: Ok, thinking about it more, I'm guessing natrium is just another name for sodium, hence sodium = Na on the periodic table.

Something similar happened to my plugs. I didn't check compression before tearing apart my block because I knew what happened. Did it sound like someone threw a bunch of change in an empty clothes dryer? What an awful sound.

I'm amazed he ran on 3 cylinders, and I'd also be amazed if he didn't destroy his valves and turbine with fragments of piston.
