That's because it's very uncommon for there to be no noise. A quick search for shows entire threads with people complaining about how loud the Walbro is. I saw one person who said he's never heard it, but everyone else ranged from "annoyingly loud" to "only hear it occasionally."

Examples:

1) Walbro's DAMN annoying....
2) ok so my walbro is whining like crazy....it's very loud inside the car.....its not loud as in VERY LOUD...but it's loud enough that it gets annoying...I can even hear it clear standing outside the car....
3) Sometimes mine starts to whine but it's not very loud in the car. Outside is another story
4) my is not too loud, but i can hear whining sound. it's normal, i guess.
5) the car there is an ambient humming noise... outside it is really loud. The noises are typical from my understanding.
6) All pumps will wine. The more flow, the more whine
7) i have the walbro 255 and i don't ever hear the whine
8) dont forget if your running full voltage to the pump at idle or low rpms the pump will be louder.. if not dont complaine..cause it will get alot louder... look at it this way, if its buzzing your running good..if its not your leaning out or your not moving..
9) I got the Walbro 255 in my Silvia, and i absolutely love the whining sound !! i think it's awesome, and yes, i've had it in for more than 3 months.. it lets me know that the car is running, and going smoothly.

Just a few of MANY.

I've never listened to an Evo, but I'm sure if you listen to a stock Evo while running you'll hear some noise near the pump.

I personally helped plokivos install his pump... the same way I installed mine... same *exact* way. Mine whines like hell at idle, throttle, etc... insanely loud. His does not. Same part #.

It's not a problem; it's supposed to make noise. It's MUCH louder than the stock fuel pump.

I can't hear mine, and I can hear a clock ticking in another room that will drive me nuts and no one else even notices. Now, I did my exhaust and cams at the same time so that would probably over power the whine a little bit, but even straining I'm hard pressed to hear noise coming from the Fuel pump.

I dunno, ct9a_gsr runs 10s with ~400whp and says his is insanely loud. I have no idea why it's so inconsistent unless people don't have the same fuel pump.

lol this is gettin so rediculous. if you are pushing your car with an aftermarket pump you WILL hear it its like a loud whinning noise and yes it will get very annoying. perhaps you guys never listened to the oem part and just got used to the aftermarket?

My 255 HP doesnt make a differnt sound at all than my stock on.. Well, my exhaust does make a nice roar while it idles.. could overpower it a bit.. but its nowhere near what i would claim to be loud or whinning. I had an external pump on my Eclipse and OMG that was overpowering loud... this at least gets dampered under the seat and in the gas tank.

So not all pumps give a noticable sound or whine... I sure do smell more gas now tho.. time for a tune!

Wrong, I don't hear it.
You're making it sound like it should be as loud as an external pump that's been hard mounted to the frame or something.

You shouldn't be telling people what they do or don't hear as you have never been in my car and can't say for sure.

Yes, but there has to be a specific reason why you don't hear yours, because the thing is VERY loud, and it is supposed to be. I have no idea how some could just randomly not be loud as hell. Go look at any Walbro thread and you'll see that 90% of the people complain about it. Those who say they don't hear anything are most likely to have loud exhaust or idle.
