How to verify if I have a Walbro 255?

I just bought a 2003 that the PO said he put a Walbro 255 in. He has the stock fuel pump and I have no reason to doubt him...however when I contacted the dealer they show replacing the fuel pump under warranty *after* he installed the 255. He says after the install the gas gauge quit working and they replaced the fuel pump housing or something like that <shrug>

I am about to send my ECU off for a flash and want to make sure I actually have the Walbro unit still. Can I tell by looking at the pump if I pull it out which it is?

It should be stamped with the Walbro insignia as well as the part number GSS317 or GSS342.

Pull out the pump housing and check the pump itself. He probably bent the black arm on the pump housing while installing the pump, which messes up how your fuel gauge reads.

Well, I pulled it out this evening and it says Nippon Denso on it and has some of the same numbers as the stocker so....looks like the dealer *did* replace the Walbro with another factory one <roll eyes>

noise isn't always something you could count on.

I installed mine, didn't make any sound. Sounds like stocker.

It whines really loudly, audible at all times in or out of the car.

Plokivos claims not to have heard a sound, but I've never heard of this or experienced it in person. It is a very noticeable whine, and if I don't hear it when I install mine, I will probably re-install it until it does, because that means something is probably wrong.

nothing is wrong. everything works good.

maybe you installed it wrong, that's why it whines. Ever thought about that?

Uh, no, because everyone else in the world who installs one hears the whine, and some get so annoyed that they take it out. You do know that, right?

I have one and its not too bad. But hey, you got a walbro 255 fuel pump so what if its noisy. Get some cams and you'll really feel a difference in power and the way it sounds. Its all a part of modding up your ride.

you obviously didn't talk to people who don't hear sounds with theirs. Or I guess you know everybody in the world.
