saying hello and 2 questions..

hey everyone just wanted to say hello. my first post here but ive been reading as much as i can on the forum for a while now. well it looks like il lbe getting my 05 wicked white evo VIII with the sound sun and leather package in mid-june, and i cant wait. the wait is killing me.
so anyway i did have two quick questions that i cant find an answer to using the search, how is the upgraded stereo?? ive only driven the car twice now at two different delearships and both times i was too busy falling in love with the car to even turn the stereo on.
also i cant seem to find a definitive answer on ipod hookups. currenty in my grand cherokee i have a sony headunit and a ice-link, which by the way i love its a great product (www.densionusa.com) would an new headunit and something like that be the only way to go, and if so do i need something like a soundgate to have the new headunit work wiht the infinity amp?
thanks alot sorry for the long first post
mat

Honestly just like your two test drives you dont need any music, the driving experience is way more than enough to make you forget about it.

Chances are a stereo store CAN do an Aux input for your Ipod (poor man's ipod link, basically). Then you can't control your ipod like with the alpine unit and maybe like with the ice-link. I have never been in or even seen an Evo with the upgraded stereo system, what Mr. Slappy said is true, for the first 5-10k... then all the noises the car makes will start to **** you off and you'll need a loud stereo Ok, seriously, you sound like me go back and test drive and turn it on, or even just have them let you get in and listen to the system, if it's not that good, and it's not part of the SSL that you may or may not happen to want too, get one without and upgrade the whole stereo system, I couldn't be happier with mine.

Not necesarily thats when you look around at the other drivers to see them all staring at your car like "WTF is that"

obviously, the sound system won't beat a decent aftermarket system, but for a stock system, it sounds pretty good. the subwoofer is plenty loud for me and my neighbors. the head unit is butt ugly though if you haven't noticed already.

for ipod hookups. what works for me is the itrip. just set your radio to a station that has nothing on it an your pod (itrip) to the same. in like 3 seconds your set. works fine for mine, just toss it on the pass seat an roll.

the fm modulators suck

you end up changing the channel all through your trip because competing with radio stations almost never works

get a direct plug into your ipod ,don't mess with the fm modulated crap

as for the fm modulator those things are awful which is the reason i went with the ice-link to begin with. so i guess ill be getting a new head unit, proobobly an alpine with their new ipod hook up thing. just found out tonight that they located a white one for me somewhere in ct..... the anticipation is killing me haha

You don't have to get an Ipod link, unless you want to control the ipod from the deck...

And if that's the case, the new Alpine decks ROCK with the ipod (the first series that was capable of working with the ipod didn't actually read them as ipods but as cd changers, now they recognize them as ipods and so all the features are much quicker)
