true that..but i have had experience with the drop in K&N and it works best..so i figure that if i leave the whole intake stock except the box. it should work a tad better dont you think? im just letting more air into the engine...rather than sucking it up with a full out intake..i dont know? anyone have experience with the ARC or blitz air box replacement?

In your opinion and experience? That's ludicrous to say the stock filter flows as well as a K&N. What made you say such a thing?

I've used both and there is no difference between them perfomance wise. cost is the only difference.

To those of you that use K&N, please DRY the crap out of the Factory Oiled K&N filter because the oil can coat the MAF sensor and mess with the signal. If you already have it installed check the base of your airbox for oil stains and wipe them clean. I dried the crap out of mine with a hairdryer and even placed it in a oven to bake. Left it out on its sides to get the oil seep out for a few days and it still sprinkled oil on the base of my airbox after a spirited run. I wiped it clean and will be keeping an eye on it ...

there is no way the stock filter will flow better than the K&N. The stock piece looks like a coffee filter

Well, if you consider that the stock filter needs to be replaced every so often and the K&N you buy once and just clean it, then yes the K&N is more expensive up front. However, in the long run you are not buying a new air filter every few thousand miles. Due to living near steel mills, I'd get maybe 6000 miles out of an air filter on all my previous vehicles. At $15-$20 a pop it doesn't take long to overcome the price of the K&N.

I think he was referring to the thread originator's question, which was between the HKS and K&N. Your price analogy still applies here, since the HKS has to be replaced, but in the stock vs K&N, performance is not the same.

My apologies. I think it was the little guy in my head talking about stock filters and not what my eyes saw

Wouldnt the BLitz filter be just the same as with the K&N filter with no cover? I tried doing that mod with the lid off and yes you can hear the BOV but I could feel some power loss, less torque. So unless your willing to get a tune that should be fine but I just dont like the fact the filter sits open like that, just waiting to collect even more dust sitting so flat.

The K&N gets cleaned and oiled. The oil from the K&N ends up all over the intake track and prolly gets into the fmic as well. There is no way that oily box can flow as well as the stock filter. Oh yeah, I don't have the info handy but there have been several studies and comparos made of the K&N and other filters vs. the stock filter in many cars. I remember the results were clearly in favor of the stock or other similar paper filters as far as filtration and flow as long as they are replaced as needed. For sure they are hella cheaper than the K&N plus the oil and cleaning kits, etc. I've tried the K&N and it did not work well for me. YMMV, etc.

^^^^This is a fact! The oil is a mess and will definitely affect the performance negatively..... I will not mess with it again....
