The cars have been tested on the track, and the EVO has backed it up with it's times. Only in a straightline are they somewhat comparable. I've driven both and it's no contest, maybe you should hand me the keys to your EVO RS and I'll show how to drive it to it's full potential. Wow I done heard it all now.
You do know that the cars are in the same road race class in stock form right? (T2). And you know that a Camaro beat out all the Evos and Stis in the street prepared autocross class nationally last year, right?

You asked where have I driven both, on the streets, and believe me, that was enough of a test for me.

Yes, it took that much to take out the Evo. Well, either that or broke7's kick *** driving skills.
The Z06 is my favorite giant slayer...it can take out the exotics for HALF the price...very sweet...

Cars running in Street Prepared Category must have been series
produced with normal road touring equipment, capable of being
licensed for normal road use in the United States, and normally sold
and delivered through the manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the
United States. Cars not specifically listed in Stock or Street Prepared
Category classes in Appendix A must have been produced in
quantities of at least 1000 in a 12 month period to be eligible for
Street Prepared Category.
A vehicle may compete in Street Prepared Category if the preparation
of the vehicle has not exceeded the allowable modifications of Stock
Category, except as specified below. However, the distinction
between different years/models used in Stock Category does not
apply in Street Prepared Category. Example: Porsche 911 models
that are listed on the same line are considered the same.
Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current national Improved
Touring rules are permitted to compete in their respective street
prepared classes. Logbooks are not required. Neither Street Prepared
nor Improved Touring cars are permitted to interchange preparation
rules. Improved Touring cars may use tires which are eligible under
current IT rules even if they are not eligible in Street Prepared.

Let me get this straight...STOCK for STOCK...a late model camaro (LS1 F-Body) STOCK can perform the SAME as an Evo VIII RS STOCK on the autocross with just a swap of race tires (a comparable mod)???? ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT?
Or, are you saying, throw on the Camaro, aftermarket springs, shocks, front strut tower brace, weld sub-frame connectors, front and rear sways, and pan-hard bar, and then do the same for the Evo...but WAIT...the Evo does not need these parts except for springs and shocks, therefore...Tah-DA!!! comparable mods????
Ultimately, there is a PHYSICAL limitation in handling when you are comparing a LIVE AXLE rear end design to an all-wheel-drive independent suspension...You cannot cheat the laws of physics and years of racing...
Better yet...if YOU were asked to compete in an autocross for money that you needed to save a loved one's like and you must choose one of your cars both in stock trim...honestly, which one would you go with? Your Evo or your F-body?

I didn't say bone stock. I said T2. And I wasn't talking about autocross, I was talking about road racing. Yes, the Evo is faster than a Camaro in autocross in stock form. That's why the Evo is in a faster class with the C4 Corvettes (where it gets soundly crushed at the national level). When the cars are modded with bolt-ons (but no internal mods) in street prepared, then they are in the same class and are very close.
I'm not going to take this thread further off topic. I just am making the point that the two cars in my garage have a lot of the same mods and a similar amount invested. They are similar in performance around a corner, in a straight line, etc. Intake/exhaust/cams/stock bottom end = 320-340 whp on an Evo. Intake/exhaust/cam/stock bottom end on an f-body = 340-400 whp, depending on LT1 vs. LS1. Suspension upgrades are about $1000 more expensive for an Evo than an f-body. The Evo is lighter by a couple hundred pound, but the f-body will fit a 315 tire at all four corners (a 335 with some fender mods), which offsets the weight in most situations. Both cars have their weaknesses and strengths from a performance standpoint. That's all I'm trying to say.
BTW, do you own an Evo? I'm a little puzzled why you are so defensive about the Evo when it appears that you don't even own one.

Anyhow, back to the topic. Apologies for the off-topic f-body vs. evo discussion. That 600hp Evo is to die for. More videos please!

Sorry I'm done, no more off topic stuff from me, back on topic. The EVO is sweet.
This 601 awhp evo runs 11 sec quarter miles (estimated)? Maybe with slicks it will smack 10s...do you all think 601 awhp is worth 16 grand? I dont know man....seems like a crap load of $.
