I dont see why i would be buying the wrong car. There are evo's in the 9s, and they obviously launch.

It's not just for launching either, i want a car that handles extremely well, barely spins tires when drag racing, is good for the winter, and is practical enough to sit 4 people, and have a trunk. Precise and quick steering i think i'll enjoy as well. I do hear the turn radius is bad though? The SRT's is HORRIBLE... never seen a worse turn radius.

SRT's traction will only get worse with mods, while the EVO has a huge advantage in traction.

Also i don't plan on doing many power mods. Maybe just a piggyback and exhaust. But i would like to be able to launch it every so often. Like a few times a month perhaps.

After the warranty is gone i think i would turn it into a project car, but until then i would only do mods that keep stock drivability or improve it.

Thanks for the responses guys, these forums seem to have a good bunch of guys.

Also even if it does require fender rolling, you can do it yourself in an hour with a baseball bat i've heard. Are there any bad side effects to rolling them?

Cheap pads ---> https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...eap+brake+pads

There are others too, search for cheap brake pads evo

Alot of people seem to make a big issue of the standard driveline in Evo's. Yes, the clutches are a certain weak point, but you'd have to expect that in a high-powered AWD. Also mentioned alot is the transfer case. This shouldn't pose too much of a problem really, especially with less-than 400 HP or so.

It seem's that some car's can take it, and some can't. I've seen a sh*tload of early-model evo's and VR-4's (same driveline as USDM Evo) with up to 400 HP handle continous high-rpm launches. A guy named Brett-Lee Sang was running just under 400HP in his Evo I and you shoulda seen the way he raped that thing. And that was a daily-driven 10-second road car, His only form of transport at the time too. DOCILE was running mid-9's on a factory driveline. eventually it broke but it held up pretty damn well. Think that car was running 650 HP then.

At the other end of the scale though, some car's will just absolutely lunch them with a decent launch *Dump, Bang, RWD* but as long as you maintain everything and aren't launching at every set of light's you should be okay.

I see. Yeah i mean, i dont plan on beating on it too hard, but i would like to launch her every week or a few times a month. How much are transfer cases? When it goes out, the evo is RWD only ?

Also, can anyone elaborate on not having ABS in a daily driver? Is it easy to lock up the wheels on a hard stop? Easy to lock up wheels in the snow?

Why would they take ABS off of a car, is there some benefit to it?

ABS, it's lighter and cheaper not to put it on a car.

I've only felt any difference when driving in the rain or similar conditions.

I just replaced my rotors and pads (05) and stamped on the back of both items were Brembo, so perhaps all the components are from Brembo......

1. Without ABS, is it easy to lock up the brakes? What if for some reason i need to SLAM on the brakes to avoid and accident, im pretty much screwed?
no. but ABS will stop the car faster in an emergency situation than any human can. plus the system is really good, one time I had my car (with the OEM summer tires) in the snow and the ABS helped a lot.

5. Will mitsu try to blaim things on an exhaust+DP?
you really mean the dealership's service manager. best policy is to ask them.

6. How much are some better tail lights? Why would they put altezza tail lights on this car? Looks retarded.
lots of people get them redone. there's a how to about this in here and evodave does a good job if you don't want to DIY.

7. All of the magazines quote very nice 0-60 times. Do they all get those times by launching at 6k RPM's?
no.

9. I know there are cams for high rpm power, are there ones that improve the 'lack of power' below 3k RPM problem?
no. there's no lack of power down low it's just not as much as up in the higher revs. race bikes are much the same way.

10. How long do the stock tires last before needing to be replaced?
around 20k. take care of the tires and they'll last longer but they definitely don't last long compared to lesser tires.
