does it smell like **** yet? I wouldnt keep driving it like that or your going to get stuck real soon.

 

I agree. From what you described it sounds like your clutch. Mine went out in March. Same thing happened. You step on the gas and the rpm's go up but you don't accelerate. If it is the clutch it will continue to get worse and worse.

It is also possible that it could be a misfire but does not sound like it. Symptoms are slightly different.

Does it happen at the same RPM's in all gears? Does it happen on acceleration only or does it happen at a constant speed while driving on the highway?

 

misfire maybe?? i don't know, i've never experienced a misfire.

if it's the clutch, the car should rise in RPMs (it'll sound like you're pushing the clutch in) before dropping back down and allowing you to fully accelerate.

 

I'm just a noob, but what you describe are the last signs of a dying clutch.

 

Way to tell if your clutch is still holding is to shift in 3rd at like 10 mph, and floor it, if its bogs, and rpms move real slow its good, if rpms just race up and car doesnt move its done.
