I can and have easily averaged over 30 mpg in my Evo. How? Drove 60 mph, long 6-hour cruise down the freeway.

I didn't say it was any fun, just that it can be done.

Don't check your gas tank, check your lead foot.

Remember at freeway speeds, air resistance goes up (and fuel economy basically goes down) with the square of your speed. At 65 mph you'll get 15% less mileage than at 60 mph (about 26 mpg); at 70 mph, 26% less (22 mpg).

For local driving, load (acceleration) determines fuel consumption. Once that turbo spools the Evo just drinks up fuel. At the track I'll average around 8 mpg.

A mod like a reflash can actually help fuel economy by leaning the fuel mixture out a bit.

No. I was able to fill in 11.9 gallons after my 307 miles. That's how I got my mpg estimate.

My light usually comes on with ~12 gallons used up. Good enough for a rough estimate, but in my original post, I used the actual amount filled.

Hmm that's interesting...most of my commute is at 80 mph...so I guess I'm not doing that bad then.

I just hit 318 at 1/4 tank. I was going for a personal record. I upshifted 2.5-3k with NO boost. I had a couple small spurts, but that's it. The trick is slow acceleration. I'm talkin a Geo would have whooped me off the line. I had to fill up, but I'm sure I could have gotten at least 330 as the light wasn't even close to coming on yet. It took some serious self discipline, but it's good to know that it's capable of 28mpg! I'm bone stock w/the K&N drop-in. Oh, and this was mostly highway 55-65mpg, nothing more than that.

I normally average about 22 to 24 mpg. I have to fill up at least once a week.

I'm so broke from modding that I rarely get a chance to completely fill the tank (only 94 of course), but I do know i'm not getting anything above 24. all city driving mostly.

OK, I hope you dont dress up for this part just to see if that gets you better gas mileage... LOL

I get about the same numbers on 93, with 325 to the wheels.

I average about 180 before the light, In the city, and ive got a pretty good lead foot. I can squeeze about 250 if i do about 50 of it on the highway before the light. I usually fill up at around 1/4 tank anyways. never even seen the light come on truthfully!!!

That's being a bit nit-picky. When was the last time you saw EPA mielage figures with a decimal point? to the EPA (which are estimated numbers to begin with?) 25.77 IS 26. Round up. You coulda gotten 25.500001 and it would be 26.

what you are looking for is a boosted honda . my turbo b16 crx was making around 300whp and i was getting around 30 mpg with a mix of city and highway miles. of coarse it doesn't handle like an Evo.

Wow - you guys are doing better than I am - 160 miles typically - no boost whatsoever highway = 200. This is on 93. I get less on my race map on 110 leaded.

I gotta admit I'm a little jealous of the 250 & over club (sigh).
