I have no business posting in this thread, but I just have to say, you work for the Navy, and own a Mistubishi? Am I the only one who sees the irony in this?

I doubt some of the claims here for income. FL's cost of living in decently comparing to other states in the union.

Average Evo's montly payment should float near or over 600 bucks a month. I'm basing this off my bro's experience of owning a 00 chevy crewcab. A crewcab should cost nearly or insanely over an Evo.

Insurance - it should cost +1000 grand for over 6 month. I'm basing this off past 3g eclipse GT owners bellyaching their payment. This is an average from great drivers to wrecking in a ball of flames driver.

Rent - For 1 bedroom in FL (excluding posh cities like West Palm), it cost over 600 - 800 bucks a month. I can't imagine NYC, tri-state area, or Cali . . . 1 grand a month?

Food and other money for pleasure or hobby - people got to be making +40 grand (take home) or just plain lying about income. This shizt adds up quick, unless you are starving from paycheck to paycheck like those lottery winners spending themselves into poverty.

Are you telling my that there are more luxury and sports cars on the road than any civics, accords, camry's, and tauras or Grand Prix or Am? You're nuts.

If you include fleet sales of GM + Ford full size trucks, then I'll believe you.

If you add all the top 10 car sellers, it still wouldn't equal to the sales volume of Ford selling their fullsize trucks nor be close to GM's fulsize sales either.

The average Amercan car is still 16 (low end)-20 grand while in the 90's it was 12-14 grand.

Living a Double Life

I didn't read all the posts in this thread, I still read quite a few, but the highest age before mine was 42.

Note the operative word...'was'.

I'm pushing my second (third?) childhood at 46 years of age. I'm divorced but don't own any alimony or child support (I was careful about that). I'm retired military (enlisted) and I work as a network engineer for a military contractor. I also own my own home.

I own an '05 MR (no mods yet) and I'm in the process of mod'ing my '02 WRX. I can definitely understand everyone's complaint that these cars aren't cheap to modify, even at my income level.
I've put about $6k into my Suby so far, just in the engine, and know that I'm nowhere near what I'll ultimately be spending after working on the suspension, body, and some more bottom end engine work. I can sympathize with the pain some of you are going through to satisfy your desires. Mine are just beginning.

Cars:

2005 GunMetal MR - no mods
Planned Mods
Halman BC
TurboXS Turbo-Back Exhaust
Helix CAT
ARC Intake

2002 Silver WRX
Installed:
APS Cold Air Intake
TurboXS UTEC
TurboXS Tuner (Wideband O2)
TurboXS Turbo Back Exhaust
Sitting On my livingroom floor:
DR625 FMIC
GT Spec II Exhaust Headers (w/Jet 2000 coating)
TurboXS High-Flow CAT
Samco Radiator and Accessory Silicon Hoses
Helix Oil Catch Can
APS Up Pipe
APS Race Fuel System
Fuel Regulator
Stuff Left to Purchase
Turbo (still unsure as to which brand)

How are you making 40 thousand dollars a year in the military? Are you adding all the benefits such as housing and other allowances? I was in the Navy for 7 years (E5 - Second Class Petty Officer) and the last year I was in I filed my w-2 with a gross of 22g. I thought and still thing the military is underpaid (poverty level)
E-6 with 7yrs of service my 2004 w-2 says $49931 now that includes sea pay, submarine pay, and nuclear program pay. however it does not cover housing and food allowances (approx. $10,000/yr) as those are not taxable. so an E-5 even without sub pay and nuc pay could easily pull down $40,000 before taxes.

didn't used to be like that though. when i was in (former Navy too), E-5 pay was $1800 before taxes.. sea pay was $150 a month. I lived in Navy housing so I didn't get BAH or BAQ.

hmmm.. seems i should've stayed in... sike! I'm not gonna say how much i make but I get taxed about $700 weekly. Thanks to the Navy though.. wouldn't have this job without the training

You lost me there. Where IS the irony in it? Are you talking about patriotism and being loyal to an American brand? Being in the military is patriotism in itself because day in and day out, our boys (and girls) are putting their A$$ES on the line to defend your freedom and mine. That includes your FREEDOM to choose the brand of automobile you would like to own. Now I strongly believe that the protectors of our freedom should be allowed the same freedom of choice that you and I currently enjoy.
