OMG who cares if he trades his Evo for a Type-S. If he feels it's best for him..that's all that matters, he's taking care of his family. It's not like he came in and said that he was trading in his Evo for a Hummer cause it would be cooler! Give the guy a break... Man, some of you guys live in ur freakin cars and video games to much and need to come back to reality.
Good luck dude

....ok...go ahead, flame me if you will...give me your best shot!
I'm sure he already considered the alternatives (giving up an evo is hard
)
I would have personally just bought myself a beater car (anything that runs and has AC) and let the evo sit in the garage for a while

It is a really tough decision for me, but after moving into my new place, I need to try to save more $ each month and the Acura will cost about half as much in car payments and hopefully be cheaper to maintain. Not to mention that the Evo becomes uncomfortable for me to drive for long periods because of my bad back (seats) and sore foot (no cruise control). Plus I have grown tired of the attention I attract from cops and ricers.
It is quite sad for me as I have been part of this community nearly from day 1 (of the USDM VIII), but I think it is the right time. I have met a lot of great people here, both online and in person at meets / installs and such. Plus I have learned so much- 2 years ago I had never driven a performance car but now I am able to do a lot of work myself and talk intelligently about the car. I will really miss the power and AWD (both on the track and in the winter), but 95% of the time, I just use the car to get to and from work.
I have a good bit of equity in my car and I am getting a tremendous deal on the Type S so the deal ends up making financial sense.
I also have a bunch of parts to take off before I trade it in. I'll post them in the For Sale section eventually, but if you want winter wheels + tires, Evo VII tails, Greddy Turbo Timer, or an Alpine head unit, let me know and we can talk.
thanks guys.

Ive had my 05 Evo-VIII for only 10 days now.. I traded in my 04 RSX Type-S
You'll like it.. great car, great mileage, and good top-end pull for a N/A 4-cyl. You'll miss the torque, though. Good luck!

I know I am going to miss the power, torque, invincibility in the snow and so on. It will be tough, but it is just a car and I have other priorities.
A different beater car wouldn't work for me because I live in a nice apartment complex with reserved parking. While my Evo is in the parking garage, I would have to pay something like $75 a month for a 2nd spot. Plus a 2nd car wouldn't really help me save money, except on maintainence.
Refinancing wouldn't help either as I already have a solid rate (under 4%). While I could push it out a few more years to lower my payments, I really want to stay ahead of the depreciation curve. Plus I have other reasons for trading the car besides $$$- comfort is another big factor.
Thanks to everyone for their support. It is cool to know that this forum has real people on it with real lives beyond their cars who can understand there is more to life than a car. Thanks again.

It is still just a Honda
It is still just a HondaTrue, but then again I hope I can avoid the attention of every single cop in town. I will also keep the exhaust stock (unlike the Evo) so I can maintain a lower profile.
Nothing wrong with your choice. I use my TSX as my daily driver and I wouldnt have it any other way. Luckily, I can afford to keep both cars, but if I was in your position I would have made the same choice. My Acura is far cheaper to run, cheaper to maintain (it has costed me zero in maintence), cheaper insurance, less cop problems, less ricer problems, and its still not what i'd consider a "slow" car. My suggestion with your RSX though, seriously, is to drop the OEM tires and get some better tires. The tires on my TSX were a joke. I replaced them at 3k miles with a set of Kuhmo Ecsta ASX all seasons and it was by far the best upgrade i've ever done to any car period. Im not joking about that either.

Pilot Sports are good tires too. I was trying to just suggest that you throw out the OEM's and buy any brand of higher performance tires. I cannot believe how bad the tires were on my TSX. Terrible in the rain, in the dry etc. Reason I mentioned the Kuhmo's is because they are excellent tires and relatively inexpensive considering the OEM's will be replaced as soon as you get the car.
