Engine Longivity

just curious with more mods then just a few bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, Bov) how much reliabiltiy do u lose in your powertrain. I use my evo as my daily driver. So my questions is if i get reflashed or even get cams and gears. What kind of life out of the engine am i to expect. Now i'm not talking about clutches or TC just the engine and the tranny in general. TIA

keep in mind that the car is relatively new so don't expect much of an answer. One person has gotten over 60K but I believe he was close to being stock so that doesn't help much

i believe that has taken care of this problem. i could be wrong though i am just relaying what i heard. as far as longevity goes, as long as you don't beat up on it everyday and you drive like a sane person most of the time you should be fine for a good while.

It's not the same 4G63. The 2G 4G63 was more along the lines of an EVO III motor. It is built tougher in the EVO VIII and responds to mods even better than it did in a DSM. But if you abuse any motor it will eventually come back to bite you.

i agree with two mix. you will get as much out of your car as you put into in. with that beings said there are alot of mods that you can do to gain alot more time in your turbo and your engine. get an oil catch can. awsome mod for practicallity and good dress up mod. i think that biggest and the best main. mod is the turbo timer i hated sitting in my car waiting for it to cool down.

53,000 miles. Stock clutch, i've got cams, plenty of other mods. it's been to the drag strip, etc. Doing just fine. No real big problems

That's about all I can tell you. Most of the real high mileage EVOs so far are close to stock.

No Evo has ever had crank walk problems. That was limited to the 2g DSMs almost completely.

well the evos 4g63 has been around since the early 90s
so i think its safe to say that this engine is the best that mitsu has ever made. and can handle what you want to do to it.
