First time at drags with MR!!!!!

I know this isn't the drag forum, but wanted to get some opinions. I am not a drag racer as most of you know I road race my car. Still making in-car video of Texas World Speedway passing Vipers, Z06's, Lotus Elises, and tons of Subis. But, I had to try the drag thing even though I know nothing about it. Fun!!!!!

4 runs.

13.9 first run.....2.9 60ft........105mph
13.0 2nd run.....1.9 60ft........106mph
14.0 3rd run (bogged)
12.9 4th run......1.9 60ft........107mph

These aren't the amazing times I read about in the mags it seems, but I had great fun. I didn't see any "magazine times" from anybody including the 3 subi's I raced and beat. What was almost more fun was the crowds that gathered around my MR almost the entire time. All the STi guys came up and then all the other locals came over to check out my MR. There aren't to many of em here in OKC. I had forgotten how iconic this car is.

I don't know if these times are good, but I was the fastest Rice in town!!!! Ha!

Answers to questions:
- 23psi boost 101 octane
- did not drop clutch.....sipped from 3500rpm
- reaction times were great at .233-.033

You just haven't learned to launch yet...it's not that easy with the 5k limiter, and the car cannot be launched from 3500rpm. You need to be at or above 5k to launch properly. Your mods are good for 110mph or more on 101oct, as you can see from my sig. Magazine times come with good launches (1.7x 60'). The 1.9s were holding you back, and it seems your tune is a bit conservative, since your mph was low. Reaction times don't affect your ET, and .233 is not good, but .033 is great.

Great feedback. Thanks. With all the clutch talk I have seen on here, I didn't want to drop it or launch it overly hard. Trust me, I thought it was hard enough launching it like I did. If I wanted to get my clutch upgrade, it wouldn't have mattered, but my "mod money" has gone to other things at this point. Back in saving mode for cams, coilovers, and rotors.

Driv200,

Congrats on your times, be in the 12's is a great achievement. Secondly please join www.evolutionmr.net and please post your times there under drag racing topic. Thanks!!

Now lets analize your time slips, Warrtalon might agree with me that your launches are killing you. The rule of thumb is that every .1 of a second that you drop on your 60' times it directly reflect as .2 seconds on the 1/4 mile final time.

The 5k rev limiter is a killer, I basiclly went from 2.0-2.2 seconds on my 60' to a consistent 1.7s flat by disconnecting the 5k rev limiter plug(it only takes a few seconds).

Here I copied and pasted my Evolution 8 evolution as far time track goes:

Thanks forum members! You all make me feel proud of my first drag experience with my MR. It was fun. WRXtoEVO....great history of your runs with upgrades! Very helpful. I can't believe the cams are that good! I was told to get 264/272 by David Buschur. That's my next purchase. But, I don't want to show up at the drag and drop my clutch. I have read so much about the clutch being the weak links in these cars.....which costs about $3000 installed to fix with an upgraded racing clutch.....so my launches will have to suffer. Don't forget, I am a road racer....not focused on drag racing. Drag racing would be so much cheaper though I might have to consider it! Thanks!

Yeah, that is my stock clutch. I want to mention that I never ever launc my car har on a daily basis, I drive my car very slow 99.99% of the times except when I am at the track. Even at the track I only launch my car around 3500-5000rpm.

No problem man. In case you are curious, Al(Dynoflash) prefer the HKS 264/264 over any other Cams. He may suggest to get 272's or 280's but that is when you are running big turbo and big boost.

12.9 at 107mph sounds about right with those mods.

You do have to remember that MR's got 6 speed transmission which could be the 1.9 60 ft time.

good job! 2.9 to 1.9. That's what I call improvement. With a bit more practive, you'll get it down to 1.80 or lower consistantly.

Ploki! You haven't been reading my sig or my threads!

The MR 6 spd doesn't hold anyone back on the 60'...if anything, it helps. His mph, though, is showing that his TBE+flash is working somewhat, but the increased boost and increased octane should have gleaned the results I saw, if not more. He probably didn't gain much from the 101oct/23psi, because his flash wasn't set for it, though.

The ET isn't bad at all...it's just a 2-3 tenths off due to the 60'. The shifting looks solid...
