4 door vehicles that can match the EVOs all around performance???

At the price of the EVO I don't think there are too many options that compare to it. STi comes close but at an autox course STi are just not as fast as EVOs. Of course this is stock vs stock. Now if you move on to more expensive vehicles there are of course there are some real beast out there. M5 would be about the only 4-door sedan that truly have great all around performance. AMGs are somewhat too luxury and weights way too much. But finally when you start to look at track / autox performance it's hard to beat an EVO. This is one reason I am planning on buying an EVO9. I am getting tired of EVO killing me in STU...

By the way, I don't see anyone mention suspension upgrades. I know HP is important but I believe suspension is what makes the car fun. No offense to anyone but I truly believe autox and track force you to pay attention to all aspect of the car instead just HP. I think in order for a car to be a true performance car it needs to have the whole package. EVO does have a very good package especially at around 30k.

Want 4 doors,, get the new charger with the Hemi,,, 345hp 375 tq... now or the srt-8 version. You can get alot of American Hp these days,,, also consider what these Hp numbers would cost you in a Merc, BMW, Audi,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The point is you can go down to the dealer and buy one like that off the showroom floor right now, today here in the USA... You are certainly correct about the FQs and modded Evos, but good luck buying one here or getting any work done on it. That's my definition of "stock". In fact, the "stock" Lancer Evolution (according to your definition) isn't "stock", either!

How about the basically stock 300C SRT8 that beat out AMS's 2.3L GT35R evo in the one lap of america? Finished 6th overall and decimated everything in its class...

I say SRT-8 for sure.

The M5 is freakin fast, but the evo for money holds quite well against it. you can pay 80000 or 30000 there is quite a diffrence. The M5 better be faster for the extra 50000 dollars.

can someone else please confirm that this thing was really "basically bone stock"? At first glance of this comment i don't believe it. I'm interested to know but not interested enough to go on a yahoo or google capade. Thanks.

Sold my M3 for EVO

I just sold an 01 M3 vert for $38000. I then bought an 03 EVO for $23000. I now have $4000 to upgrade my kitchen (makes CinC Demi happy), $4000 to upgrade/tune the EVO and have $150 extra per month to help pay for private school for my daughter. I also have 2 more doors. So I have picked up over a second 0-60 time and been socially responsible to boot. So I think the EVO is an unbeatable deal.

BTW I was looking at an 01-02 Audi S4 but could not find a good one. Also they take more money just to keep up with a stock EVO. Nicer interior though IMHO.

The Audi S4 2.7T (twin turbo) engine is an old, outdated engine. It can perform well, but it requires chipping, turbo upgrades, suspension, etc. Its a ehavy car chassis to begin with, and it really is problematic. My car (Passat) is based on the same chassis as the Audi S4, and uses the same front end suspension as the S4. Over the years, Audi/VW has been plaqued with issues with their suspension control arms, and the 2.7T has been know to have MANY turbo failures.

If you wanted the 2.7T, you'd be best to tear down the motor, bore it out to 2.8L, install some forged pistons and rods, upgrade the turbos to Euro spec K04's, and do a complete Euro Spec RS4 turbo and manifold swap. But that upgrade alone can cost upwards of $12k, ontop of the original sticker price of the S4.

Not the best out there, and still cant perform and handle as well as the Evo.

So, IMO there really isnt much out there that can outperform the Evo. Thats why Im thinking of switching from my European roots to a Japanese make.

I had the Jetta 1.8T with a bunch of mods, I just bought an 2005 evo and the evo is 100% better.
